None, or would Rome, Paris, Jerusalem, Instanbul, etc.?

That's a good question... maybe Rome, Mecca, Athens, Jerusalem, Kyoto, Beijing? (I don't know about "legendary", but pretty high anyway.) It seems a lot of historically significant cities have since been destroyed, too - so it's tough to say.

There was a discussion thread about this a while back. Venice and Istanbul, definitely.

So does that mean Italy is one city away from ruling the world?

Well Venice and Rome definitely make it... i'd say a few European cities are there, Paris, Istanbul... St. Petersburg perhaps?

Why Venice? I can agree with Rome, for sure, but it seems to me that there are many cities with more culture than Venice, unless I'm missing something. Kyoto, the old capital of Japan has a very rich culture. What about Jerusalem or Mecca? (both of which have a very rich history). And if you're going to include London and Paris (which is valid, I think), I'd also include Moscow and definately Athens.

Totally agree Venice is nice, but Athens most definately!

No one mentioned Egypt?

Athens, Rome.

If we're going by artists culture bombing and settling, I'd say London but New York will be up there too.

Paris? Athens?

Cities like Rome, Istanbul, Delhi and even Venice have been conquered, plundered and changed the owner so often in history that not even one of them has the slightest possibility to become a historical city.

The same is true of every named city, be it Athens, Mecca, Alexandria you name it. Not even the Japanese and Chinese Cities went unharmed ...

In terms of culture bombing however London and Paris are on good tracks.

For culture bombing the powerhouses must be Hollywood &/or L.A. ;)

Wow, that's a pretty interesting questions. Legendary probably means something to the effect of world-renowned and having a great impact history.

Cities like Rome, Jerusalem, Mecca, Beijing, Cairo, Athens. I think cities in Europe and America are too new to be truly legendary, though anyone can feel free to dispute that.

let's see Paris has several wonders in the game, doesn't it? Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Versailles is nearby... it's also a very old city so plenty of time to earn culture points ...are we on normal speed? :) it has lots of monasteries and religions and they have been in free religion for quite some time now. and talk about Great Artists... Paris!

But Rome and Athens are in Europe. So also are London and Paris, both of which can surely have a strong claim to legendary status. And I'm unconvinced that Cairo is or was a cultural hotbed.

Karnak. Only the Egyptians could build something like that.

Oh, and Cambridge, because Pink Floyd come from there, which means five very big culture bombs.

But I don't see any reason to include London, it's only famous because of the industrial revolution, hardly "cultural".
