I have played Civ 1 for many years and i never had any clitches or blips with the game. But in my last couple of games strange things started to happen.
firstly, i was just playing normally when Napoleon wanted to speak to me, i accepted. when the parly screen came up the graphics were all messed up. in the corner of the screen was a box containing all the facial expressions (smiling, angry, ect) of the people that are usually standing in the background. At first i just accepted this as nothing. But later in the game when i went to the Intelligance Advisor, a wierd screen came up:
(it looked like a normal Intelligance screen but with different stats)
.At the top it said "Empire of the Zulus"
subject: the 8, Microsoft Corp.
Leader: > (the arrow was flashing grey & black)
Capital: NONE
Technology:

(this is all i can remember)
the strange thing was i was the russians, the Zulus wern't even in the game.
and nobody had that technology yet.
Another anomaly i encountered was the "Bermuda Triangle" or should i say "Square". it was a single square just off the coast of Mexico (pacific side)
enemy ships attacked the empty square and were destroyed whilst mine just passed right through. i observed this many times in that game and made sure the square was empty when the enemy attacked.
Any idea how these phenomana occur or have you experienced any yourself?
