Do we want to stick with the civ3 ones? keep some? combine them? expand them?

my general ideas:
  • comibne industrious and comercial to economic
  • remove expansionist (with carryover into religous and militeristic)
  • remove cultual bonuses from scientific
  • if religon is incorperated into cIV split religous into religous and cultural
  • create nomadic (creating a more self-sufficiant civ)

what do you guys want?

I would like to see increased benefits to each trait, to add even more variety with each civ. Possibily even add disadvantages to each trait as well.

Remove exp, add some kind of a fast moving trait. Exp is like a trait that expires when you get out of ancient times. What is the point to have scouts in ind?

I think traits are kind of a cheap cover up for a more sistemic problem, economics, civics, culture and diplomacy are not working at the level they need to be. They are trying to add something to make the game seem less militaristic (sp?) without actually just fixing the problem and expanding these areas so that the civs take on those traits without them being forced upon you. After all its about rewriting history, so what if I decide to make the Indians a military superpower. But I am pigeonholed with commerical and religious.

But if they are not going to do that and stick with the traits idea I would suggest the following:

The traits are associated with the leader head. That guy changes with each age. You get to choose from different types of leader personalities, from war monger to peace lover to authoratarian to enviromentalist. you either choose them or they are random.

they have much more distinct benefits and disadvantages

More distict traits for each personality.

This helps in several areas including things a trait not being useful for the entire game (expansionism), the game changes from age to age so traits would be more specific to the time. Give a sense of a lasting empire that grows from leader to leader.
