[GS] What were they thinking with barbarians?

My biggest complaint with GS is the barbarians. You either live in a continent that is swarmed with them for as long as any tile is hidden, or you live in a continent where they literally don't even exist. I'm not sure which is worse of the two scenarios. But honestly, what were they thinking when they settled on that? It seems like a terrible game play design that nobody would want. I'm not trying to be too negative because overall GS is really good, but I don't get how the uneven barbarians in it got past testing.

That's why you play on a Pangea map.

That's pretty silly. You're forced to play on a single continent in order to get barbarians? A lot of people prefer to have a useful ocean and useful navies. Why don't they just fix what is a really stupid aspect of the game and wasn't broken until GS?

Probably a bug no one got around to fixing before release. More than one continent probably confuses the barbarians. LOL

I'd hope a minor patch smooths that and other issues out real soon now!

It is silly, but a workaround nonetheless

game play design

Most likely a bug as R&F wasn't this way. I can't imagine any reason why they would want it this way. I learned to deal with it in m Egypt game, but I already had a big military anyways, so wasn't a big deal. This is more annoyance when trying to play peaceful with a small military.

Not sure whether I should post here or in the What are your "unpopular" opinions about Civ6? thread, but I've played like 8 games and haven't run into any hordes of note. Certainly nothing I would term a massive horde consisting of 20+ units. If I hadn't seen a bunch of people posting to the contrary, I'd have bet the barbs had been nerfed in GS.

They sort of have been, depending on where you spawn. My problem isn't with the hordes, it's with the unbalance. Sometimes you have hordes, sometimes you have literally none. I guess it's a bug based on what everyone else is saying, but I don't get how they didn't catch it in time to fix it then. It seems like a pretty obvious bug and I can't imagine it would've been that difficult to catch.

Not sure it's a bug, seems related in behavior to the new starting location scripts...

How do you mean?

That the apparent randomness (more than before) of the barb camp spawns seems to replicate the pseudo-chaotic CS placement, which is a consequence of the new location scripts for main civs. Pure intuition, no proof but my impression.

Makes sense, I think I may perhaps be missing my inspirations more often as of late due to a lack of barbs.

It's clearly not working as intended therefore a bug but I agree the new starting location scripts are the likely culprit.

As for why it wasn't found well there is only so much you find with a small testing team - no way you will ever replicate what you find when millions of players with different setups (both in game and in terms of equipment) get their hands on the game.

If this is a bug , then the question is when we gettin it fixed , or we wait till summer for some big patch balance updates in it ?
