I've just declared war on my adversary and this is my tech position. Never sure which is the best option at this point I thought I'd ask advice.

My adversary, Mehemed , has Economics and Nationalism . Probably going for Democracy. He has Janissarys.

I am building cannons and grenadiers all over the empire and want to just overwhelm the enemy.

Assembly line ?
Milt trad? (dont have it yet)
Railways?
Artillery?
Flight?

Which tech order would you do?. It's a pangea map and I have basically one front, with good diplo with the other civs, one of whom is hitting the enemy from the other side.

The tech pace is still pretty fast.

Also, I have Nationalism

Personally I'd go straight for Assembly Line, but it depends upon your trading prospects ... does anyone have Corporation, Steam Power or Scientific Method that they're willing to part with?

Ive got Cyrus and Alex to trade with .They both want chemistry.

I gave it to Alex becasue he's attacking the other front for me, but I'm not keen on giving it to Cyrus as he's cautious , and I'm teching them in a few turns anyway.

I'm drafting rifles and building cannons -teching to inf- now. Maybe artillary to build them and draft riflemen. I guess the question is would you attack with artilliary ahead of infantry?

Does anyone prioritize flight ahead of infantry?

No, because they dont have defense bonuses while Infantry does.

Does anyone prioritize flight ahead of infantry?

Heck no. Please dont do that...you'll regret it.

1. If you researched flight you'll only unlock the fighter, not that it matters because you wont be able to build them without...

2. ...Oil, which you wont be able to tap until combustion

3. Fighters (along with all other air units) cant kill any unit or capture any city.

4. Infantry will be the mainstay of your army until Tanks. If you're first to get them, youll demolish everyone in your way for quite some time.

5. You'll be able to upgrade your riflemen into infantry.

6. Assembly line also gives you factories to help you keep up with increasing hammer cost.

When Im going for war techs, I research Infantry asap, then artillery, then tanks. I wont research flight until I see enemy tanks...then I know I need the gunship.

Thanks for that advice.

Dont fighters cut stacks to pieces before they can get to you?

I get the tech order, Inf,Art, Tanks . I'll stick to this. maybe *after that* flight and radio is the priority. Thats quite a bit later in the war thougfh I suppose.

Dont fighters cut stacks to pieces before they can get to you?

Yes and no. They can bombard from air, but their damage is very low, and once a unit is at 50% health they wont take any more damage from any air unit. So yes, you can hurt stacks before they get to you, but it will take lots of turns and lots of fighters to "cut stacks to pieces".

Its a much more viable strategy with bombers, for which youll need radio. Once you are able to make bombers, then youll see that you can really do some damage to a stack...again, though, youll need a decent amount. If you can, dedicate one city or two to building bombers for a bit.

The other problem is that the ai seems to get sam infantry very quick. This will also slow down whatever fighters you send at them.

Assembly Line.
This tech is a huge step for a civ. Not only for Infantry, but for factories and coal plants.
You could afterwards get democracy and build the Statue of Liberty faster than any other civ.
