What's the *last* tech you acquire in each era?

As do mine. ;)

Punny.

Has anybody ever finished the entire modern era techs?

I have on Regent level.

When I have taken over about 60% of the planet (including 2nd/3rd place civs) and am totally dominant in the game and have built 90% of the spaceship, I often delay building the last component as long as possible to let my empire to have more time for growing population.

Part of that involves waiting for completion of Longevity and Cure for Cancer.

In those cases, I can and do complete the tech tree just to see if I can get to the Future Tech.

But I can't imagine researching all those modern techs and expecting any of them to be useful (other than mass-transit and modern armor).

Construction or Currency. Magnetism or Metallurgy. Flight.

Same here.

Has anybody ever finished the entire modern era techs?

On Sid. Not me, I've only done that on Deity, but for some of the histographic games you'll find they completed the entire modern era.

I think on Huge Chieftain I got to Future Tech 44, on Huge Regent I got to 34. I've completed the tree on higher levels but I can't be bothered opening saves to see how far I got.

You need Electronics for Mass Production, which you need for Motorized Transportation. So researching it last would be fairly difficult :p. But seriously? I almost always beeline Scientific Method to get the Electronics slingshot. It works so well.
You don't- Electronics is needed only for optional advanced flight

In any case the last mandatory techs I research are: Polytheism-if peaceful/construction-if warring, Magnetism, Electronics and use the ToE to reserch something like combustion to hasten Tanks and Bombers arrival Hoover is great but not that great by the time I can build Hoover most of the required power plants are already there and it's silly that I need to build/rush a coal plant in order to construct Hoover SGL excluded.

Of the required ones, theory of gravity in the Middle Ages, usually, and Radio in Conquests 1.00/Vanilla in the Industrial Ages. Ancient Ages it depends a lot - Polytheism if I'm going Republic right away, otherwise usually Currency or Construction. In Industrial Ages C3C1.22, most often Electronics, unless I'm doing well in techs and decided to go ToE -> Atomic Theory -> Electronics, and build Hoover Dam, ideally with a Great Scientific Leader.

Including optional ones, probably Monarchy in the Ancient Age, and Free Artistry in the medieval (unless going for 20K), and Advanced Flight in the Industrial, although Ironclads is likely, too, if enemy frigates pointlessly bombarding my shores aren't annoying me too much.

In the Modern Era, probably Integrated Defence most often. Maybe Stealth. I never actually need them, so I'd sooner get some nice happiness/health wonders that I don't really need with Genetics. Robotics I like because of the increased production, as well as SS part.

I got to like Future Tech 7 in a Warlord Iroquois Vanilla game once. Then I won by Spaceship. Never really bothered with Future Techs after that as I was disappointed with the very low score bonus.
