I've played for about 12 - 14 hrs (all day) once when my girlfriend was away.
As the computer is in the main room with the telly I get away with 6 hr sessions by telling my girlfriend "I'll play civ and you can watch what you want"!
I don't think she believes me as she calls herself a "games widow" but she lets me get away with it!

I have played other games for many hours in a row, eating breaks not counting, probably somewhere between 15 and 20 hours in a row has happened a few times.
This was with starcraft and diablo.
Civ i usually play only like an hour or half an hour, occasionally 1.5 or 2 hours. Don't think i ever played it longer than 4 hours or so.
The big difference is not that civ is not a good game (although indeed no game will ever be able to compete with starcraft
)
It is that the other games i played in a real time multi player community. I always play computer games pretty seriously, and can't stay really concentrated for longer than an hour or a few. In multiplayer games, i just start chatting a bit when i get tired of playing or play a different version of the game that doesn't require thinking (like money maps in starcraft or non hardcore chars in diablo)

I don't have marathon stretches. But Civ is like a warpool. I'll walk by the computer room, with the best intentions of doing homework IN MY ROOM, when I say, "Well, I have to get that source of horses" or "The Romans are almost dead." Or then old classic "1000 AD is a good round numbere I'll play till then."
They told me once that I've played 36 hours strech (I was affraid mostly for my back,and still I'm),now I'm playing about 7-10 hours,but 3-5 hours is optimal for me...

usually when i get to 12 hours, My GF, a priest and a representative of addicts anon come to get me in some kind of oprah/Dr Phil like intervention.
I'd say something like 12-14 hours is my max...
FOOD BREAKS? Pizza is the ultimate Civ lovers food... Rule with one hand, and control the civ worlds sole source of pepperoni with the other....
My main problem is i have to split my hours between my two loves.....CIV and DF-BHD......
if only work didn't chew up all these valuable hours......

I've played whole week-ends to civ2, back at the time I was a girlfriendless student. I remember that one of my roomies was so addicted, he started at like 6 PM during the week, and when I woke up at 7 AM to go to class (he was supposed to go with me), he was still in front of the computer.

I'm glad to see that I'm not as badly addicted as others on this site(God help us if Sid ever develops narcotics)...the longest stretch that I've gone playing is 10 hours, off & on...I typically play an hour or two a night & 4 of 5 on the weekends...

During the first week of my addiction, I started a new game at 7:30 in the morning. As the game went on, I would take smoke and bathroom breaks, but at 10:50pm I came to the realization that I had yet to eat that day. Still in my pj's I hit up the McDonalds drive-thru and returned to my computer. After what I thought was just a few more hours I shut the game down and my eyes nearly popped out of my head. The little clock in the lower right corner of the montor read 5:45am. When I finally went to bed, sleep was still very elusive as I was too busy planning my next twenty moves.

My friend Stu is still upset at me for giving him Civ1. It was thanksgiving, and everyone in residence was going home, but Stu's parents were away so he was staying in residence. I gave him Civ1 at 4pm on Friday, he had dinner, then started playing at 6pm. He finally stopped playing when he feel asleep at his computer at about 3am on Saturday night (or Sunday morning, depending on how you define night/morning).
First Shift Total : 33 hours.
When he woke up at 10am on Sunday, he had some breakfast, then kept playing until about 6am on Sunday night/Monday morning at which point he feel asleep at his computer again.
Second Shift Total : A mere 20 hours.
When he woke up at noon on Monday, he had breakfast/lunch and started playing again at 1pm. When I got back at 10pm on Monday, he was still playing. At that point, Stu erased the game from his computer, gave me back the floppies and made me promise never to let him play again until final exams were over.
