What's with the price of astromancy?

I'm playing this game as Carthage on deity level, huge map, and the time has just gotten around 10AD. I eliminated India and half of Spain to get some breathing room, and the America was another neighbor of mine.

Finally, I discovered Astormancy, and since I have kept a great leader from my wars to hurry the wonder, I decided to trade it away immediately (nobody else has it yet). I brought up the diplomacy screen and asked each civ for prices one by one. The highest was offered by Persians: two techs, a 120 gold up front with 10 gold per turn - I was satisfied with the gold since nobody has a lot of money at this stage. However, when its the America's turn, I put Astormancy on the table and asked Lincoln what would he offer, and I almost fall off my chair, he offered Banking, world map, 85 gold up front, and 101 gold per turn!!! I was like, err? Is my CPU over heated or something? Yeah I've gotten a few hundred GPT for modern techs easily before, but has anyone got this kind of deal this early? For reference, my whole nation has a net income of 290 GPT, and I don't expect America can make much more since they are about the same size as me.

Anyway, I did not end the deal right here, which I usually do to keep other nations in good terms. I removed the tech and world map Lincoln offered, and requested more to the GPT part, the deal was finally settled at ...................... 85 gold up front, and 252(!!!) GPT!

I immediately give America their 85 gold back for free, just to show my "Good wishes", which is, hopefully, they will not declare war on me during the next 20 turns.

So, what's the highest GPT everyone got from AI at this stage? (Around 10 AD)

Nowhere near 252 GPT. In modern ages I have traded Uranium for over 800 GPT.

Thanks for the info Dave. I've heard that if a tech has an uncompleted wonder in it, that tech will be valued higher by AI, is that true?

Yes that is true, at least for the dead end techs (free artistry, music theory). I can sell one of those 2 techs for everything the AI has (luxuries, 50 gold/turn for example) before the wonder is complete. After the wonder is already complete they will only offer a lump sum of 10 gold.

Wait. England gave you 1567 gpt for your world map alone? I can't believe this. They wouldn't give that much for a world map.

i've got 500gpt for 2 modern techs, plus ivory. 1500gpt is f***ing incredible! are you sure it wasn't 1500 in a lumpsum? or did it include loadz of otherthings, like techs and luxuries as well?

What difficulty level were you playing on, and what version do you have? I can't think of any reason the world map would be so valuable to England. Did it show the location of another continent or other valuable information they could have used?

Ive gotten techs in the modern age for 3-5k and 500 per turn before, damn i got really rich in that game!

i can not rember which patc or leval but i can rember that it reviled 4 outher civilizations and about 1/2 of the map

That may explain it. That's still an enormous amount of gold per turn for a world map though. I will have to try selling my map in the Modern Age and see what I can get for it.
