I think you should vary the terrain more, those vast areas of grassland will be quite boring in the game. Use some creative license. :)
I think you should have included the Aiel Waste.

Thanks for the suggestions mrtn. :) I made the map using the inside cover of one of my hardbacks as a reference, and (very little) from "The World of the Wheel..." The Aiel Waste is only squeezed in on the edge of the picture, so I didn't have much to go on. I was planning on making the aiel a unit only available to Rand's civ, so I left the Waste out.

Originally, I planned on disabling settlers from the scenario and adding more towns/cities, so I didn't worry about varying the terrain too much. But I'll definitely keep that in mind while I work on it. Thanks!

would've had the scenario/mod done by now (it's close), but instead i've been working on a gig. map using the "BMPToBIC" program. it's about as accurate to jordan's map as possible, but using that program requires quite a bit of time. i'm almost done with it, every city is in place with connecting roads but there are still some ends to tie up (rivers, resources, etc.).

well enough about that, here's a preview:

That's really good. Any chance you could do a giga world map? Something inlcuding the Land of the Madmen, Sanchean and Shara?

Thanks tjedge1. I've been contemplating a giga map including Shara (+ the Aiel Waste), Seanchan, and the Land of Madmen for one of my next projects. How could I not want to get some raken/to'raken involved? :) The Seanchan may frustrate the hell out of me at times in the books, but you've gotta love the possibilities they could bring to a mod.

The only problem is, the maps that I have containing these realms are somewhat less than detailed. I know that gives me a little more freedom, but I'm definitely a perfectionist and would like to keep everything as close to the source as possible.

I'll attach a pic of the map I'd most likely use as my base. Let me know what you think. And if you've got something better I could use, send it my way along with any other suggestions.

thanks

Private Byrne's giga. map of Middle Earth (which I think is incredible) got me to questioning whether or not to attempt the same style with my giga. map of the Wheel of Time as far as rivers are concerned. It would definitely shift the terrain around, but the increased value of ships would I feel represent the books more accurately. Any thoughts?

All comments on this are appreciated.
(would have made a poll, but didn't know how to add it here :) )

I think the river idea is great, as it is what I was planning when I thought of doing this map myself, but have been side tracked with my mod lately. The pictures you have are the exact same I have. If I have time, I will try to look for more on the net.

The Seanchan are actually my favorite guys. Aside from The 3 main boys Rand, Mat and Perrin. They do present a problem that has me intrigued on what Rand will do about them. He will never beat them away from the lands now that they have almost all the shoreline to themselves. And possibly more fleets on the way. If only he could get everyone to work together. :hmm:

Ah... another Wheel of Time buff. :)

I've been leaning more towards the functional river concept, I've already made Far Madding and Tar Valon into islands with land bridges, but now I don't know that I can settle for the traditional river system. I've got some time off coming up in the next two weeks so hopefully I'll be able to wrap things up and put the final product out there... and then get to work on my next projects. :)

Another question:
Working with a giga. map, I've been trying to figure out the "traveling" ability. In my play-testing, all I've come up with is giving Rand the enslavement capability, producing gai'shain who can build airfields, and then also giving Rand the airlift/airdrop capabilities along with foot unit transport. Any thoughts? Keep 'em coming.

(and keep up the good work on your mod tjedge1, I'm looking forward to playing it)

That is about all you can do with the "teleport idea" I have a nice graphic in my thread on the last page that uses a victory gate graphic as a gateway to replace airfields. It doesn't quite fit the Wheel of Time, but could represent the Ways sort of.

As far as Traveling, I think what you got is about it, unless you make certain units air units and give them rebase ability and leave off the immobile flag. Then they can move and travel to cities or airfields, but they die if anyone attacks without a fight because they are basically air units. They would also be able to walk on water. Thats not good.

I think I read that you can give the rebase ability to land units too...
BTW I just read Crossroads of Twilight, and I must say that I'm very disappointed. I don't get how he can use 1000 pages to say "Oh, look, someone used a lot of the Power!", and nothing else. Jordan should get his act together...

I agree with you mrtn about the Crossroads at Twilight (Should have been called "Buy my pointless book, cause I need the money you idiot fans!"). That wasn't the first in the series that had no point. I was furious that it didn't end and I've debated whether I will purchase or borrow the next book. I love Wheel of Time, but come on already, they have been saying the Dark One is about to come out for the last 5 books! The whole book Crossroads was a waste of time, and I'm pretty sure since nothing happened at all in the book that you can skip it and go to the next one and not be lost at all.

Speaking of rebasing:
I have heard that it can be done to land units, but I haven't tested it. Can a land unit rebase from the field or does it have to be in a city or airfield. Air units don't need that ability to rebase from only they need a city or airfield to rebase to. I thought the land unit had to be on one of those to work. If not, then yippee that is a bonus skill for wizards.

Crossroad=setting up the climax, needed if long.

Winters Heart alone only took 28 days.

+ what book(s) did you find the other maps? I had never even heard of the land of madmen. I feel like a moron but i must know.

The land of the Madmen is referenced by the Sea Folk mostly. There is a book, written by Robert Jordan & Teresa Patterson, called "The World of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time." It was written sometime after "A Crown of Swords." It has information about every land in the Wheel of Time including the mysterious Shara. And some major characters like all the Forsaken up to that point in the story.
