I voted "after reading the review"
I've read a fair bit of the ideas stuff and some of it worries me very much.

I'll get it only after I read some reviews and see more information on it. I really dont want to be burned like I was last time with MOO 3. That game really came in well below expectations. They haven't really made a lot of progress into coding yet, have they? Does anyone know the current status of the game, is it still in design form?

I've voted to get it within the first week, but that's qualified by the fact I live in the "wopwops" - it won't be released in NZ until possibly 6months after it's avalible in the USA/UK etc.

Ryth, is there any reason why your windows version wouldn't be able to run the US release of Civ 4 when it comes out? And if there isn't, why dont you just order it via mail order? It may cost more initially, due to shipping but within a few weeks many internet sites have deals. :) I get most of my games via the internet now, not only does it eliminate taxes, but there is much greater competition on the 'net so the prices are almost Always much lower than the local software or electronics chain store.

EB games, Gamestop, and Gogamer are all good.

Good point. I didn't think of that.

I'll see what I can do....

It is within your power to edit the poll and add more options to it.;)

Thanks Elagalad, but I'm a poor University student and don't have a credit card! So the internet option isn't one for me. Besides, like you I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone here thinks of it, and seeing if when the extensions come out. Cheers tho. :)

But that's the most likely date-of-release.

How would you know? :crazyeye:

Even if that were the date they intended (and releasing a game in time for the Christmas season is always desirable from a marketing standpoint, but wouldn't that make November or October even better?), there's a lot of time between now and then. Unless they have Civ4 finished and waiting for a certain date, then there's still work to do and could always be delays.

Having this forum to offer suggestions seems reasonable, since if anybody is paying attention, now would be the time to get their attention. However, talk of release dates seems like spitting into the wind, to me. Why bother?

The ideal date for maximum sales is timed so that it is on the store shelves on the day after Thanksgiving. In the USA, this is the biggest shopping day of the year and some people will walk by it in Wal-Mart while looking for Christmas gifts and think "Little Johnny has always been a history buff and a bit of a megalomaniac, maybe he'd like this here Civ 4 game". At least that's what the marketing guys tell me.

I got my Civ3 game for Christmas in that same way...

Yeah, but stores are busy places in the holiday season. Will they all get every product that wants shelf space out on display with exact timing? Sure you want the product ON the shelf then, but do you not want it there before then? I dunno, I'm not a marketing guy, but I do know that folks in my family buy Xmas gifts starting well before Black Friday, which they all avoid like the plague. If Civ4 hits shelves for Halloween and sells decently, you bet it would still be on the shelf for the Big Day.

Oops. I said we shouldn't bother talking about that. :o I'll follow my own advice now. :)

I'll absolutely buy it the moment it comes out - voted first week.

What true CivFanatic wouldn't?

If worst comes to worst, and it turns out like MOO3 (oh, God, please, noooo!!!!) I can always resell it on eBay to some other dumb slob... :D

And, after all, no one said I have to throw away my Civ3 the moment I buy Civ4, right?

Yes, Sirian an little before is better, but not too much before as the companies have to pay for shelf space (sad, but true) in the major stores.

I meant Fall 05 is the most likely release, not actually December.
