I play on quick.
I know if you kill an AI and you haven't met any other AI, there is no one to tell, so no penalty.

But I have two questions one about early warmongering penalty and the how it spreads.
First what time frame constitutes early warmongering?

Is it turn number based (and if so how do I convert Quick turn numbers to standard).
or is based around something like average tech, or lowest tech?

Next, how does word spread (of early warmongering or the penalty of taking AI cities)?

Is it dependant of when you meet, so if you have a war with an AI and then make peace and then meet other AI do you incur a penalty for past acts.

Does the third party AI have to meet just you, or does it have to meet the AI you are war with as well?

Thanks for your time

cheers
John

An AI knows nothing about any warring you did before they met you.

They don't know about any conquering you did before they met you, but if they know someone who's denounced you before they know you, once they do meet you, it's possible for that denunciation to slide them against you as soon as you do meet.

Like, let's say you're on a continent with three other civs; you in the southwest, Babylon in the southeast, China to the north of you both and Rome to the north of China. You, China and Babylon have all met, but China is the only one who's met Rome. If you stomp all over Babylon, leading China to denounce you, during which time they've been making friends with Rome, the second Rome gets a Trireme down the coast to meet you, while you don't take a warmonger penalty with them for taking out Babylon, you're going to take a hit because they suddenly realize you're the one their buddy China's been talking all that smack about.

You're still better off than if you'd had both the denunciation and the warmonger penalty hanging over you, just don't be surprised if things get a tiny bit sour between you and the civ you just met.

Even worse, if you backstab a civ by declaring war against them while a DoF is still active, every other AI civ will know about it. It doesn't matter if you or your victim have not met anyone else. It doesn't matter if you kill your victim before you meet anyone else. Everyone will know, and you will suffer the penalty.

I guess your sailors are singing victory songs celebrating your perfidy as they explore the world.

I am playing a game as Attila and i completely wiped out every civ on my continent before renaissance era and no one knows. HAhaha love it. Its like it never happened.

thanks heaps guys for the answer on my second question plus denouements and backstabs, got a good handle on that now.
Any know when the early warmonger penalty stops being given.
That is when does it become safe to go to war with out taking cities without diplo hits.
cheer and thanks again
John
