Hi,
I am listed as first in the multiplayer game, i noticed the egyptians are building smiths trading company so i investigate, they will be complete in 13 turns and so will I, what can i do to speed it up and who will get it? thanks

You should if you are in front of them. Of course, that is if you both don't grow, nothing esle happens to your shields, or you don't get a leader. If it is still the same with one turn left, you should get it.

Yes, make sure your city doesn't become unhappy, or you're dead. You can't rush wonders by any method except great leaders (this includes clearing forests).

It is also possible that if Egypt is in a war, that it could produce a GL, in which case you're dead as well.

WildFire444: I guess you found a PBEM game? Or just gave up?

Thanks for the help cromagnon, but yes, i am in about three right now, so i decided i didn't need the sig anymore :)

play around with your sheild output.. u can increase it while starving a little and then change it next turn just to optimize and reduce the number of wasted sheilds.. alternately.. keep a worker in the city and maximize shield output add the worker to city if pop drops below 12...

OR..

if u want it REALLY bad.. send a death squad of Riflemen to pillage around the Egyptian city building the wonder.

As it is right now, Egypt will get it before you. If you were ahead of them, it would have said 14 instead of 13. So, you will need to follow PersImm's advice or just move all your workers into those cities squares surrounding the WW producing city and have them work their butts off.

Although, I do like the idea of just going after the Egyptian city that is producing the wonder and messing it up. : )

Good luck.

How big is your city? Is it 6 or 12 and with some citizen as entertainers? up your luxury spending(10%-30%) to make those entertainers worker for the time being until you get the wonder.

12, no entertainers, i am building some more mines now. I have also loaded a galleon with 4 calvary and elephantine is about 10 turns away where i will begin pillaging improvements at elephantine (where the egyptians are building the wonder). I hate to do it because they are a power (very close 3rd in the game), and they are polite, but since they are on a different continent i have to take the chance. I cant risk losing out on the wonder and its in my capital city which means i cant switch to palace to delay building another wonder.

Human production turn go first (If you have 1 turn to go with wonder and no-one yet completed, it is yours always: I had a tie like that on J Bach with Aztecs). So if nothing happends you will get Smith. Although 13 turns is a long way to go...

Unless they get a leader as cromagnon points out. It would be highly ironic if they get a leader while defending themselves from your pillaging and use it to rush Smiths.

Well wouldnt you know it, the lowly carthinginians, way down in the standings and me never thinking they could mount a threat for a wonder, stole the wonder with 6 turns to go, oh well, i wasted 100 shields because it was in a city, the egyptions promptly declared war because they have no saltpeter and the greeks joined them, but since i have calvary and neither have saltpeter it is time to clean out the continent.

I wasn't aware that the game did turns in phases?

I thought it was

AI Turn
- Science
- Production
- Unit/City management, diplomacy, etc

Next AI
- Same thing

Player Turn
- Same thing

Next AI
- Same thing

etc, etc...

Well I'm no expert in how civ3 is programmed but from my experience, it's more like:

1- human units/city management

2- ai's units and cities management

Then,
3- player's cities production and science

4- ai's production and science

So if you have 1 turn to go on a wonder and the computer also has 1 turn to go, then the human will get it (otherwise, you could get into a situation where the human uses a leader to hurry a wonder and still not get it, and then a lot of customers would be really really angry). I saw a thread on this a while ago. It was more detailed (city flipping etc) but I don't think it's quite relevant here.
