grrrrr......

I just had my invading army of tanks killed by knights and longbowmen!

Just thought I'd share my frustration at this annoying anachronism.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll EVER be able to conquer the whole wide world...

If you play a game to be historical... I suggest you stop playing Civ3

To lose your tanks it took a LOT of knights & longbows, didn't it!

I have had a similar situation: Invaded Persia by sea TWICE, but both times I sadly underestimated how big my invasion force should be. Xerxes had his whole army to draw upon, using his road network. I had only 30-40 units in the invasion force (including artillery). Sure, I killed 3-to-6 of his units for each combat unit I lost, but the odds were still in his favor because he had so many units.

BTW, I won anyway. Space ship, as I recall.
Xerxes had been my nearest rival and I wanted to cut him down.

Yeah, It'll take alot of them to take some tanks down.

actually, no.

I landed my tanks on the shore (most were Veteran but I had a few Regular) and then these knights came up and decimated my tanks!

I was like.... WTH.. $!%@$%!@!!

All in all I lost about one-quarter of my invasion force so it could have been a lot worse..

The Babalonians once had a stack of 200 longbowman outside my city. I killed 50 of them on my turn with infantry, and then they attacked my city with about 50 infantry with their longbowmen. They brought them all down to 2 hitpoints or less. The time it took for them to attack me with all units was about half an hour.

It is mainly impossible for tanks to be destroyed by knights... either every single one of those knights were elite or you were "attacking"(not them attacking you) with mech Infantry.

Spearman...the most powerful defensive unit in Civilization III

Due to the many suggestions on the forum, I have changed my strategy to a spearmen-only defense. No more riflemen or infantry. The unbeatable spearman is my protector. I can't wait until my next game. I'll show those German Panzers a thing or two. Mu-ha-ha!

Think how much this will save on upgrade costs. If this works out, I'll probably change to a longbowmen-only offense. I can't wait to try them out on fortified mech-infantry.

:p

BiatchGuy, I wish to sincerely apologize for making light of your grievous and unexpected loss in my previous post. However, from your location in "the ghettos of Baltimore," I would assume that you are somewhat used to irregular combat techniques. ;)

In the movie Casablanca, Major Strasser is relishing the day when the Germans march on New York City. Bogart replies, "Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade."
