This is the first time I've tried to find my saved games on my new win7 computer, and I can't find them.

Even using search there is nothing with "sav" in. I'm thinking they might be hidden files but I have tried un-hiding them, and it doesn't work.

Help

You should be able to back track it from the Save or Load dialog box in the game. Just keep hitting one of those directory options at the top of the file list.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\
If you open the civ.ini (it is a small text file and will open with Notepad) in the conquests directory under C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\ it will tell you where the last saved game is located.

I am not at home so I cannot give you the exact path.

Tried this, now I know where it is, but I can't get to it in explorer

No .ini file that I can see

I have the exact same problem.

The Save Files do not show on Windows 7.

If you go through the menus while playing the game, as in the menu you use to Save or Load games then they are there and you can make manual saves of individual games to a file on your computer, but if they are saved in the default civ3 'Saves' folder then they do not show on Windows 7.

So I'm glad someone knows where to find them! I look forward to you being at home at some point :D

On my computer, my saves are in C:\Users\Public\Games\civ3\Conquests\Saves. So, I think yours should be at C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Saves (NOT Conquests\Conquests which gives you the Conquests Scenarios). That is, unless you want any PTW saves, which I think will locate at C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\civ3PTW\Saves.

If you go to the menu button and enter *.sav, it will start showing all file that have type of sav. Right click on the one you want and it will give you the properties.

Basically they should be in the X86 directory, if installed and played as admin. If not as admin, then they go into a USER directory. Then it gets a little tricky as they have three class.

Once you locate them you can open the menu button and select computer. Drill down to the correct location and then cut and paste or whatever you want, using the std windows explorer.

You may need to look for a button in the window called "Show Compatibility Files". I had this same problem when I first installed Civ3 onto my Vista computer. Just navigate to Conquests/Saves and look for it. If it's there, once you click, all those saves will materialize like magic. ;)

There may be an easier or better way , but this worked for me on Windows 7. Go to control panel, appearance and personalization. Under folder options click "show hidden files and folders". Then go my comp, users, your name, AppData (this is what was hidden previously) , local, virtual store, program files(x86), Firaxis games, Civ 3 complete, conquests, saves. There they are. Glad they didn't want to keep them hidden from us:crazyeye:

Edit: CFC was having server trouble earlier, and I didn't realize an earlier reply had gotten through.

That's it!!! Thank you so much:goodjob:

@Everyone else I tried it and it didn't work, thank you also.

I had the same problem with a new desktop running Windows 7, and I was able to find where the saved files were by doing a *.sav search. But it takes a long time to navigate to that location, so is there any way to change where the program (I have Civ III Complete) stores saved games?

Not that I know of, but you can build file folders in the program files so you can easily navigate. That is what I do for my XotM and SG games. That way they are close to where the game defaults the saves and loads.

If you want to manipulate the saves (for uploading & submitting for example) you can make a short cut to your desktop. I actually move the saves to my desktop when it comes time to upload/submit them because if you leave them in the folder you have the same 'Show Compatibility Files' problem but no way to fix it.

In Win7 go to the folder with the save and make a shortcut. Move the shortcut to the ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/ and cut/past to the location you want.

I have a Civ folder that I have all the key shortcuts located and put it there.
