:( Is it me or silver is realy hard to find? When ever i look i can never find anywhere in the world ... well the only place i CAN find it is somewhere realy realy to the north or south in tundra ... whad up with that??

so is it me or everyone see that?

Where is my silver :confused:

if you are really lucky you can get your citys to work hill tiles with mines, this will give you a chance to find a random mineral, usually one you dont have connected yet.

Are you talking about the Terra map?

Come to think of it, it's rare that I ever get silver. Looking at a save someone recently posted there's no silver at all on that one. I wonder if it's supposed to be really, really rare or if it's bugged.

Ah, I see the problem now. Silver can only appear on Tundra or Snow squares. Most maps has very little of that. On maps with arctic climate it should be much more common.

After playing many random maps, I found that there are some rules of the random map generater. The gold is more likely to appear near a desert if it is not on a desert tile. The germ will definately appear on a grassland tile or a grassland with jungles. This location of the germ is near the equator. The silver can only be generate on a tundra hill with no forest on it.
Since there are usually very few tundra/hills tiles on random maps, the silver resource is very rare compared to other resources.

I agree. I came tot he same conclusion. Also after the patch same maps that rolled before seem to have far less tuandra tiles. I rolled exact map as before the aptch but resource allocation and terrain types changed witht he patch :/ So now its even harder to get your hands on silver. I hope they change this. Im tired of 3 gems nos ilver no gold.

BTW Gems are foudn in jungle.

Tundra barren hills are the most likely. I agree it is probably the most rare of the precious metals. I only found it abundant in a game where the settings were for Ice Age conditions.

In five games I still haven't seen any sign of this illusive silver, and none of the AI's have ever had it to trade. It took at least three games for me to realise silver even existed.

I totally lucked out in this game and got 3 silver mines all right near each other.

I have never seen silver anywhere but tundra hills without forest squares, and usually it is a lone deposit. One time I did see two right next to each other. It seems to be one of the rarest resources to find, and you have to be VERY aggressive to get it before the computer can.

I've definately noticed that I don't wind up with silver very often. The AI isn't hesitant to trade it for any other luxury, such as gold, though. I've had it traded to me fairly many times, so it doesn't seem like the rarity affects the AI's value of it.

Is that just a game balancing thing to put silver in tundra tiles only or is that how it is in the real world too?

Mine any mountain that is not in a town radius to get that small chance to pop some metal. It is better than nothing.

yeah but still silver will only appear on tundra vmxa.

Short answer is "no" to matching the real world. Canada, Australia, US (Rocky Mountains mostly), Mexico, Russia, and others are all significant silver producers.

well i knew it!!! no silver for me :mad:
well atlist im not alone

but still i dont see how that is a balance, in all the games i had there was always loads of gold, i mean load of it, 4-5 for the wolrd and sometimes more
yah jems are preaty hard to find but they are always there, always, but where is damn silver, i dont think i saw it in my last 2 games( maybe more but i was just not looking for it)

so unless u get an ice age map, most likely there will be no silver or u will have to have a town god knows where just for that

some one was aksing if it was like that in the real world, no its not, silver is like gold can be found "anywhere" regardless of the climet,

well i see WHY they might have done what they did, just to redestribut the resoure over the map but i think its not fare to the "silver" :mischief:

silver and gold should have an eaqual chance to apear as a reasours in the same place (hills or tundra) well i think it would add to realism of the game ( and another :) to my towns :king:)

GIVE US OUR SILVER !!!

P.S.
is there a sugestion box for the next patch??? we can drop an idea for them to adjust:crazyeye:

I lucked out and got silver, marble, oil, and iron all in the otherwise worthless barbarian infested ice plains south of my capital. I didn't realize how rare silver was... I got two of them. That was on a "lakes" map.

Search for Silver. Somewhere you'll find:

Code:
	<TerrainBooleans>
				<TerrainBoolean>
					<TerrainType>TERRAIN_TUNDRA</TerrainType>
					<bTerrain>1</bTerrain>
				</TerrainBoolean>
				<TerrainBoolean>
					<TerrainType>TERRAIN_SNOW</TerrainType>
					<bTerrain>1</bTerrain>
				</TerrainBoolean>

Add any terrain where you feel Silver should exist. Hills is not a terrain type, there's a separate boolean for that (<bHills>). Forest and Jungle are though. Gems are identical to Silver except it exists in Jungle and Grassland instead of Tundra and Snow so don't worry about them becoming too common.

You can copy this file into a mod directory if you don't want to use it all the time. Just save the edited version into:
...\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\<mod name>\Assets\XML\Terrain\Civ4BonusInfos.xml

I recommend backing up the entire XML catalogue before experimenting at all.
