I'm just wondering how you learn to make the graphics.

I am experienced in all of graphic arts, and 3D modeling and animation but not sure where to find out how many degrees to render it out at, or what angles, etc etc. Is there a tutorial on how to turn your 3D model renders into working 2D game characters?

Thanks Much

I believe its rendered at 45 degree from the top view.

Do you know how to get the movies of each unit playable in the units folders? I tried to open each one but I get a player error. Says unplayable, its some strange format. I'd like to try a few models and see if they work, thanks.

i think i may know
i have a promotion 4.2 trial that will not alow me to save so that is a severe drawback in my unit making expidition,
but i am practicing on it
and after opening it u can open an animation onto the screen
such as the warriors default...or...attack A
as the animation goes on it eventually turns the character and repeats the animation untill he has round the 360th degree,
so i then just individualy render each frame..
but i supose u know all that

i just felt i needed to get my medeocre knowledge of animation out into the open

read Dark Sheers tutorial
it is superb

I know some people use 3d render software to help create their units, and then they import the proper angle's to their counterparts in Animation Shop/Paintshop Pro. I would suggest using hypercam to take an avi of your 3D rendered unit, then exporting the individual frames that avi into PSP/AS.

Well the technical aspects are taken care of, I use Alias / Wavefront Maya for all modeling and animation and have access to Premiere and After Effects for .avi, .mpg or whatever format to compile the rendered stills and have the ability to maintain alpha channels. I can bring into Photoshop and edit there, Im more curious about the angle to render at, Dark Sheer said 45 degrees from top angle. I guess i'll have to try that and reread his tutorial. I figure doing a model in full 3D will also allow me to create a shot of the new unit to use in the civilopedia as well.

Thanks guys
