Where will Civ go?

Where will Civ stop? (How much faith do you have in Sid Meir?)

I've been wondering ... where do you think Civ will go from where it stands? Will it stop at Civ4? Expansion packs?
Just an idea ;).

Civlization is among one of the most respected titles in the world. It would be hard to think that Sid Meier has no more ideas up on his shelves.

If Sid Meir died or something, would it be continued? Or would it be left?

It would be continued no doubt, Sid only really created the first one, Brian Reynolds did most of the work on Civ 2 (and SMAC) and Sid didn't have a great deal of input into Civ 3 either. It's said he will be doing more on Civ 4, but whilst I hope he has a long and happy life, I think the series could continue without him.

I said it would last until Civ 4 + expansions. All great games have to end sometime. I am suprised that Civ has lasted even this long, most games do not make it past version 3. When I first got Civ 3, I saw that it had been made in 2001, and I thought for sure that the developers had abandoned it. I was very suprised when I saw that Civ 4 was in the makeings. I think that Civ 4 will be a great game, and will have some expansions, but there will be no more after that. Honestly, right now I can't think of a game that lasted five versions. If I thought harder I probably could though, but they are rare.

This game will never stop...it will go on, just like the Final Fantasy series!

Really, though, I think Civ will last forever. It is a one-of-a-kind strategy game that anyone can really get into. Use yourselves as proof of that! If we keep buing it, they will keep making it! :)

The only one I can think of right now are Might and Magic series... All my favorite games seem to die off at a second reincarnation or so... HOMM 4 was a disgrace and should have never been made, rather than change everything for the worst and 3DO went bankrupt... Baldur's gate 2 was the last of that series... I think Civ 5 and expantion packs will be made and they will have an extremely easy to use editor and thus there will be no need for Civ 6, since many fans will make thousands of variations that will make for years and years of playtime...

Sid Meier will never die. His spirit will always be there to guide the guys that update his game.

I reckon civ5 + expansion packs. i can imagine Civ5 being released in 2010 with the last expansion in 2012. Its hard to say though.

Considering what Take2 paid for the franchise, I assume it will have a very long life.

I think the civilization series is reaching saturation point in it's product cycle. I reckon it could just manage a civ 5 plus expansions before it finally enters decline and Sid Meirs and his team will have to think of a new product, if they wish to carry on being a major competitor in the Computer games market

It won't stop unless the Firaxis studios and there archive is wiped out of the planet. In a few years PC's will be used differently and have all new features, I'm sure Sid is 'vain' enough to keep his best title updated with future developments.

They could take Civilization to a new level.

How about a MMOG CivilizationOnline? It would probably destroy the Sims if nothing else.

Upon log in you'd join a nation and have the choice to be soldier, diplomat, scientist, worker or basic civilian. You would then be in a nation where you can do various things to help it grow, prosper or conquer others. 'Civ Restarts' would have to be cause what fun would be permanent death. Destroyed/restarted civs would get some sort of underdog bonus to help them grow again and be able to fight back.

*shrugs* Nevermind it'd probably be cancelled in development .

Who knows, maybe they will give it a more captivating way to battle! Instead of hitpoints dying and stuff. Like Rome:Total War! You have the real time and turn-based! Too bad it doesn't work on my computer.

How can it be the final fantasy if they keep on making more? It's like the imported carpet store in Seattle that has had the "Going out of Business Sale!" sign up for 20 years!

But seriously, they'll keep making Civ stuff untill we quit buying it.

Tragic or Comic, it's all Economic.

The only danger is that it becomes like NFS. It will get the best 25D grafix, but the gameplay will begin to suffer.

Bingo! As long has there are hundreds of thousands of people who will buy it, they'll keep making new ones.
