Where's my Top 5 Cities screen?

I can forgive the lack of religion, I can forget the espionage, but what ever happened to the Top 5 Cities list? I took great pride in watching my cities move up the list as I built more wonders, or just conquered the better ones. This is an egregious omission to the Civ franchise. I haven't been this disappointed since I found out there was no Throne Room in III.

And don't get me started on no Aqueducts. Cities have needed aqueducts for the last two decades and then all of a sudden they're gone, like they never even existed? Weird.

I know this may sound like a minor nitpick, but I've noticed a startling slippery slope of oversimplification developing in the last 2 Civ games and I feel like people don't even care.

And can I just say that it's somewhat pathetic that the Civ team hasn't been able to transfer the awesome features of Alpha Centauri to a Civ game yet? AC had it going on: killer diplomacy, unit modification, a dynamic planet with eco disasters and cinematics that were so good they still give me chills to think about.

It's just hilarious that you got a cinematic with Civ 2 and Alpha Centauri after every wonder, and then things just kept digressing with the boring animations in 3 and 4, and finally the still photo in 5 just like the original game.

Has any one else noticed this or am I just crazy?

It was streamlined out with half the other informational screens

Ah !!! Alpha Centauri ....

Yes, it would be so nice to have it as an expansion to Civilization !!
"You won a space victory? you may now try to survive there , Sir / Madam !..."

No, you are not (too) crazy. because my list of complains is way larger than yours, hence I should be very crazy...

It's not a nit pick and many agree with you! Although by "last 2 Civ games", do you mean "Revolutions and Civ5"? Because to me it looks as if each addition to the series, from 1 - 4 got *more* complicated. More things were added than taken away.

Revolutions and 5 have clearly reversed that trend. Maybe as a deliberate business decision to gain a whole load of more casual gamers at risk of losing a few more serious old-skool types. Although I dislike Civ5, I can understand the decision as if 5 had been based closely on 4, but with yet more new features added, it may well have turned off any newcomers to the series, limiting sales only to those experienced with 4.

I'm not saying that one has to like Civilization 5, but I think this is very true. A Civilization 5 that was built straight off of Civilization 4 would have been nearly impenetrable to outsiders.

It's the same shambles as no Wonders Of The World list - I mean how can you possibly be a leader of a nation and have noone in your country available to tell you where you can find Great Wonders?
"Oh, we know that Japanese have some neat structures somewhere in their lands". These things are supposed to be huge AND noticeable, as well as greatest cities.

Probably will come in DLC on Christmas

Yeah, no. I don't recognize Revolutions as a true Civ game, but I completely neglected Colonization.

I thought Civ 4 was just great, especially after the expansions, but the warfare was more basic compared to 3 at least at the beginning. Of course the only interesting thing about 5 so far is the military. I'm convinced that Civ II was the last perfect Civ game.

Have you tried C-Evo? I actually kinda like playing it sometimes. If you think Civ2 was the perfect Civ then you should really like it. It takes the older Civ format and runs with it.

Where's my Top 5 Cities screen?

It is in a player made mod called Improved Demographics.
Also for more information like graphs and GUI representationi of global relations, InfoAddict.

Previously core screens and data once gathered by devs are now the job of modders to implement.

Thanks for mentioning that mod Arsenic! I've been using most of the other UI enhancements but overlooked that one. It's very nice.

I agree that the out-of-box UI is far too spartan with this kind of information, btw.

And AI leaders' clothing changing each era.... (stop)

Just imagine; Hatshepsut (serious, i really **WANT** her back in Civ5), Catherines (4+V), Wu, Isabella, Liz -- all together at the same "party" of Eras switching and re-de-clothing - oh -well -- that's for another sensual subject.
:mischief:

Top 5 Cities, individual city population, and MOST OF ALL: the final "retire" screen, that I enjoyed most of all, was removed. Why? Released too early I supposed, that or Firaxis dun goofed.
