Which CivFanatics are involved with Civ V?

Internal referee to the devs. That's how it worked for Civ4. 95% of us were referred (probably by multiple internal people) to the devs. The other 5% would've been hand picked by the devs themselves. :)

Would if they didn't want to do it? How do you know that they wont go screaming to all their friends that ciV is coming out.

One thing I don't get is, how do you get testers before the release is announced if you don't want anyone too know about it? Would if they say no?

That's what NDAs are there for. If you're testing before announcement, you obviously can't even say the game exists, if you're testing after announcement, you can't speak about your part in it.

That was quick :). But what about before you even agree to the contract? OR do you have to agree before they even telll you what they want to talk about .

That's right, if you're getting invited to test an unannounced game (or work on it in any other capacity), then you have to sign the NDA before you even find out what exactly it is. Same with getting a job at many of those companies. You may know that you're applying, say, as a graphics programmer for a game. But until you actually get accepted and sign the company's NDA, you won't know what the game is exactly.

I was sent an email from Soren inviting me to test a new game Firaxis was working on. The NDA specified "The Game". I did not actually know what I was testing until I was actually in the group and had access to the private discussions. :)

Thats kind of funny, you get told
Person 1: "Hey, would you like to help test a certain game."

Person 2: "what is it"

Person 1:"i can't tell until you sign this *takes out phone book size stack of papers*'

Person 2: "ok then:rolleyes:"

Again, that's nothing really special for things requiring non-disclosure agreements of some sort. If you apply for a job at a company that's working on an unannounced project (most are at any given moment), or if you apply for a job at some organization dealing with classified stuff (military, intelligence, security, etc.), you won't know the exact nature of your work until after you get accepted and sign all the papers.

And if you actually happen to do this in someplace like the military, yeah, they'll give you a very well sized NDA to sign, not just 1 or 2 pages ;)

That's only in the Military :mischief:

I must admit that as soon as I read 'Leaders have fixed attributes' I thought Sirian straight away based on his MOO infatuation and how he liked the AI's (variable) attributes and personalities. the 'back and forth' with the lead developer for CiV has me pretty darn sure he's on the pay roll.

As for anyone else, I cant speculate as I dont know many of you that well. (I know who Sirian is because I came here via Sullla's walkthrough and RB)

Yeah, my NDA didn't technically state I couldn't admit to being a tester, but not like I would have admitted it either way. Most testers aren't stupid.

Logic Like this I miss.

Thanks for making revise an NDA I have been working on for a week.

It also helped that I'd written some big mods for CTP2. If anything, the best way is community participation. If you add to the community, and to the game (or franchise so to speak) then the dev is more likely to notice you. Just "being a player" and asking for a free slot won't work in Firaxis case.

"I'm a playa playa for real!"

Testing a game?

For free?

:vomit:

But if youre that eager to test, dont worry. As with most games these days we'll all be Beta testing it after its been released and weve bought it :p
