Which Expansions work with STANDARD Game

Hello, hope someone who is very experienced can help with a question. I have both the Standard game and the Rise & Fall expansion. Most of my online friends prefer to play Standard only and in a way I agree. While parts of R&F are good, and 'more' wonders, great people, etc is Always good, the addition of Loyalty and the Governors is a pain in a game that already has a lot to think about, especially when playing with friends who prefer not to experience even longer turns. I would like to know which Civs expansions can be bought and used on Standard play. I spent a lot of time on Steam and the ads should make it clear WHICH work with standard and which MUST use R&F or the leader won't show up in the selection screen. Is there a link showing each Leader's game requirement? Or can someone just list them? Thanks much!

Basically... Every single one! Every single Civilization that isn't part of the R&F and GS DLC's can be played with on Standard. Even the NFP Civ's, not the modes though, only the Heroes and Legends Mode can be played without the major DLC's.

Thanks for the fast Reply. What confused me is a friend starts a game. But I cannot select Poundmaker, nor Saladin, nor Shaka, etc. So this is because they are not expansions but part of R&F? If so, that kinda sucks, lol. I can't choose certain leaders, nor get a lot of the cool additions, without also taking all the rest of R&F.... including Loyalty, Governors, etc. That's right, correct?

That's true-wait... Saladin is a base game Leader. He doesn't need R&F mechanics to be played as, so I don't know what's happened for you. Maybe a bug?

No, my mistake.... I meant to type Seondeok instead of Saladin. But I believe I get the point. The leaders who CAME with R&F can not be used in Standard Games. The leaders you buy in those $5 or such small packs, ALL of them you can use in Standard. Thanks again.....

Ahhh... Now it makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up. You're welcome as well. :D

So, you can't use any content that comes with an XP/DLC without using the rules of that XP/DLC. So, if you want to only use Vanilla rules, you can only use Vanilla and DLC Civs. If you want to use a GS Civ, you have to play GS rules.

This is even if the Civ doesn't seem to depend on those rules. The only exceptions are that some NFP Civs need XPs to play, despite not being an XP (actually, it might just be some game modes, I can't remember).

Unfortunately, you can't really pick and choose in this manner in Civ 6.

NFP is not an expansion pack like Gathering Storm or Rise and Fall, it is a collection of DLCs (it is a pass after all), only parts of each of those packs are locked behind the different rulesets. the Modes themselves aren't "rulesets" as much as layers on top of whichever ruleset you are using

Seondeok, Shaka, Poundmaker etc. are locked to the Rise and Fall ruleset OR Gathering Storm.

Gathering Storm comes with the GS and RF rulesets, and those with RF will also have access to the RF civs/natural wonders/wonders etc.

I do wish the Loyalty and Governor mechanics could be turned into the new NFP-style "game modes". Sometimes they make things more interesting, but other times they can be a real nuisance of micro-management. Making World Congress and Natural Disasters toggleable as well would be appreciated, rather than keeping them arbitrarily tied together under the same ruleset.

Thanks for the opinions gang. Yes, my friends and I.... primarily a boardgame group (Terr/Mars, Euros, mid-weight titles), like C6 but as we have so many other interests, we play like 3 online games to completion each year, each taking like 3 or 4 sessions. Everyone realizes WHY Loyalty and Governors add to the game, esp for dedicated players. But for us, it's more a pain in the dupah. So we play Standard/ We have not gotten G/S because of the natural disasters.... we don't want one player to have bad luck with them. Yet we wish we could add the Ski Resorts and some of the other cool additions that come in that expansion.

You can turn disasters right down, so their affect is really minimal given how easy it is to repair. It might cost a builder or two, which is nothing over the course of a game. Tarting biases swamp disasters on the lowest setting. However, if you really don't like the R&F mechanics, then there's not much you can do.
