Which FFH2 settings to choose?

FFH2 is so slow that I find if I'm playing Epic or Marathon mode, the AI does much worse than if I'm playing Normal or Quick Mode. I've found the same thing in regular Civ - the faster the gamespeed, the better the AI does compared to a human player...

Plus it's just so boring on marathon pressing enter for 150 turns, each one taking 5 seconds...
