Which is better? PS3 or Xbox 360?

Neither, they are (now) more or less similar. The main differences are the PS3's blu-ray and Microsoft is more or a greedy dick than Sony. Even the free multiplayer and stuff might change for the PS3 (free will still be available but Sony's announced paid service is not entirely known yet).

That said I would get a PS3, I slightly prefer the controllers, I vastly prefer the interface although I'd get used to the 360s if I had one, and Sony doesn't force every DLC and new content to cost money, and I strongly oppose buying points like Microsoft or Bioware points that don't give you back change if you have some left over. Also bluray is nice. However I'll stick with my PC <3

360 has more and better exclusives.

Such as...?

And the controllers don't suck.
Purely a personal preference. There is nothing wrong with the PS3 controllers, whereas I have experienced issues using the d-pad on the 360 controller when trying to navigate menus (it would often mistake a very clear downward push for going left or right).

Which one is better is purely going to come down to personal preference, whether it be the controllers, the games, or whatever else.

I'm more of a pc gamer myself, but have a 360 for the occasional console game I want to play. If I could afford it I would probably have all 3 consoles.

I own both, buy whichever has the exclusives you like.

The hardware is virtually the same now, both have big hard drives, both have built in wi-fi. The PS3 has an advantage here due to Blu-Ray, if you don't already have a blu-ray player.

In terms of how they run, there is no general difference although some games look better on one than the other. The main differences are these:
- xbox is cheaper
- psn is free
- ps3 has blu-ray
- controller differences - mostly personal preference
- games - note, i wouldn't say that the xbox has a better selection, but if for example you desperately want to play halo, you should go with the xbox for obvious reasons
- xbox has had far more reliability problems than the ps3, although these do seem to have been largely resolved in newer models.

I'm a PS3 guy - but mostly because all my friends played on the ps3. if my friends were on xbox, i'd probably have gone for that. the consoles aren't very different. even the money thing evens itself out over time, what with the xbox live subscription costs.
