Question 1:

So under the prior versions, you would get a free tech from a research agreement. Now you get a tech boost. But which tech does your tech boost go to? Is it like the old system, where you can make sure your bonus does not go to a bad tech by researching 25? of it?

Question 2:

It says under the new system, your tech boost is 50% of the median of tech's you can research. But what if there is an even number of tech's you can research? What if one tech costs 900 points, and a second tech costs 1200 points, and you cannot research any other techs: what is the boost?

Answer 1:

The boost goes to the current tech you are researching. If there is overflow, one of two things will happen: If you have another tech selected to research next, the overflow will go to that tech. If you don't have another tech selected, the overflow will go to a random tech.

Answer 2:

If you have two techs to research with 900 and 1200 you add the two together (2100) then divide by two (1050) and divide by two again (525). So you would get 525 research.

To figure out the median of all available techs, add the amount of research required for all techs together then divide that sum by the number of techs available and then divide by two.

That's not a median. Just cross out the the most expensive tech and least expensive tech, until only 1 or 2 are left.

Actually it is median.

If there are an odd number, then you take the middle number: the median of 1, 2, 3 is 2, and 2, 4, 500 is 4.

If there are an even number, then you take the average of the middle 2: the median of 2, 4 is 3; 1, 2, 3, 4 is 3.5; 900, 1200 is 1050.

median in even number cases is generally (and in civ5) defined as mean of middle two.
