Which UU is your favorite!

I like the Gallic Swordsman of Conquests.

Speed for fast progess in enemy territory and retreat option - the Mounted Warrior sounds very sexy, too, but I do not play Iroquis probably in the next time...

@ Longasc- The Mounted Warriors are Nasty also. The only problem with
them and the Gallic are resourses :scan: . If you have them- look out AIs!
:hammer: . You will  the Iroquois- the Agric for quick growth and
the Comm will snowball as the game goes on. Give em a go. :D

Their Traits and UU are good, but I do not like to play them, they are not among the civilizations that personally appeal to me historically - and the names of their cities suck! :)

@ Longasc- I AGREE completely. Though I do not like them much historically,
they are tough in this game, that is why I like them ;) . I do NOT like the
early GA though  , but they can not have everything.

I love the Impi. Early, fast, no resource needed, cheap. Other civs tremble when I play Zulu. I like the immortals too.

I also enjoy the Man-o-war, but not really for any other reason than that it is HUGE.

My favorite in vanilla CivIII is the Immortal. Its awesome attack power makes it easy to wage war against stronger opponents.

In Conquests it has to be the Javelin Thrower though. You get it very early, it's cheap, and if you wage a lot of early wars, you'll have captured more than 50 workers before the end of the Ancient Age! I really do love this unit, all those early (and free!) workers really boosts your empire! Unfortunately they're not that strong (compared to other UUs), but when used with Catapult support, they definitely do kick some ass :)
The only downside with the Javelin Thrower is that it initiates your Golden Age way too early...

Sipahi, Keshik, or Legionary.

The Legionaries can remain useful even on the advent of Knights, the Keshik cand dominate the Middle Ages and last into the industrial ages for a bit, and the Sipahi rules the gunpowder age, being useful up till the time infantry come about.

Berrern is right about the Javelin Thrower, it's enslavement and the Trait Combo of the Mayans are very tempting indeed!

Exactly! :D
The main thing to remember is that those captured workers are FREE, so instead of having to pay 50gpt for your self-built Workers, you can enslave 50 Workers, and use those 50gpt for military units instead, which really aids in wiping out your neighbours really fast!

french musketeer.
put a group of 10 on a mountain in a fortress. your units are indestructable.

Unless the AI chooses a different roote...

CIV 3 Mounted Warriors. Nothing can beat this Unit.:hammer:
Does anyone know that if you have not had your Golden Age, you would be able to build your UU even with a superseeding Tech.
The idea is that playing the Iro. you go full speed to Military Tradition with access to horses and Salpeter and not yet your golden age, you can build either Mounted Warriors or Cavalry!
So as soon as you got Cavalry, turn the research OFF, build MW for 30 sheilds and upgrade them to Cavalry. :D Enjoy.:hatsoff:

Just change my view after having started a new game with the Vikings last night..

My new favorite is definitely the Berserk! With 6 in attack this unit will dominate until Nationalism (and Riflemen) is discovered - and since the Berserks are available when discovering Invention (IIRC), you've got almost an entire age to pillage, plunder, raze and capture your enemies!

@ Berrern- I am playing the :viking: now. The Berserks :spank: butt. I
usually have a hard time building up early on Emp and sometimes Mon  , but in this game I am doing OK due to the Celts and
Iroquois being at war early and India and Japan cut off on Lrg islands
unable to trade yet with each other ;) . I am currently building up
Berserks to wipe out India in the next 20 or so turns :D .

I like Hoplites and legionaries. They defend very well. And taking their build cost into account they are the best defensive unit until rifleman (1 musketman is worth the same as 3 hoplites and I know which i would like of those two choices) :)

Keshik .......by far the most powerful unit in the game, forges empires single handedly.
Id like to see your Gallic Swordsman cross mountains IN A SINGLE BOUND. You might be saying 'but it only has 2 defense' well thats becase the keshik lives life ON THE EGDE.

Old school... Persian Immortals. I know that it's the cheap and easy way, but they're great because they have the high defensive rating along with their 4 attack points, so you don't really need to bring defensive units along with them when you're invading.

I like Impis. Although I rarely play Zulu because of their traits I adore this UU. A fast and early Spear. Good for exploring, pillaging, Fortifying on mountains inside foreign coutries, watching attackers die stackwise, retrat and heal, and again. They rock! Tiny awful moskitos and a hundred tiny wounds makes your neighboures stay where they belong to, DOWN

I adore Sipahi too. An 8 attack point cav. What is more to say? Sloughter 'em all.
And I like Ottomans anyway, IND and SCI are good traits IMO.

Mounted warrior. NICE! And AGR-COM rocks also a lot.
