There is a good english site about Phillip Reis. I was wrong about he had a patent. He also had none but he demonstrated his invention in front of a scientific auditorium. Also a German company produced and sold Reis telephones. I doubt they did it without a patent but I still dont´know.

P.S. I just found this site:

Meucci never showed his invention to the oublic in 1857! He only had a patent of 1871 which lapsed in 1874. So it might be that he built something like a telephone but I think Philipp Reis should get the credit, because he had witnesses who are undoubtful.

Reis's phones were demonstrated all over Europe. One was demonstrated in Scotland while Bell was back there visiting his father. We don't know if Bell saw it. However, he could hardly have been unaware of Reis's work.

Bell never commented on other's inventions. He appears to intentionally avoid associations, why?

Stalin invented the telephone.
