Who should replace Angus Deayton as host of HIGNFY?

*token American post*

First in the thread! :D While I have nothign to add to the discussion, I have seen Clive Anderson on reruns of Who's Line Is It Anyway? on Comedy Central (when it was a British show), he seems OK. :D

You damn Americans ruined that show. Drew Carey is no match for Clive Anderson. And none of the comedians on it seem to get the point (With the exception of Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery [spelling?] but that is because they were regular guests on the British show). Also there is too much music.
[End of rant]

How about Ben Elton as host.
Good at one liners and still some cred as a stand up comic.

Greg Proops was good, too, I thought.

I hate Jeremy Clarkson. The man is an incalcuble arse-head. He should never even have the oppurtunity to present it as a guest. So much for him.

Johnson was rather good, I thought, but his show was hilarious as a farce, which seems to me to be defeating the point of the show. I didn't see the Lisa Tarbuck one, on account of not having regular access to a television.

You'll never be able to get a better host than wee Angie. Never.

Clive Anderson seems to be the best contender, to me.

Oh, and my girlfriend is incredibly reluctant to watch it now. She is protesting about the decision to axe Angus. Well, I'm principled, but I'm not that sad.

Somehow I think Ben Elton wouldn't be very good. Call it a hunch. He isn't, after all, a television presenter.

Agreed.

Clarkson would be great - he's the working man's Jeremy Paxman. :) Personally I would like to see (if only for one episode) Patrick Moore present the show.

Clarkson would be excellent as long as he could be persuaded that he wasn't the star. The essence of the job is to back off when Merton or Hislop are on a roll.

That's also the main reason why Clive Anderson or Mark Lamarr would be a disaster. They each like being centre-stage too much.

Possibly, but Clarkson can look very much out of his depth when up against genuinely clever and funny types. His humour is too "rugger team down the pub" to fit in with Hislop and Merton, who are on a much higher level.

With the caning he would no doubt receive from them I bet his career would be set back rather than advanced.

Here's another name to be thrown in the ring.

Jack Dee - now he WOULD be a good host.
