I have played all civ games and just got civ 4 and BtS. I always altered the games and made my own but I am so confused on this game !!@ Is there a Civ 4 for dummys? It used to be soooo easy

You should try some of the already made modpacks first, there are some really good ones available.

Fall From Heaven is a must to check out, as is RevolutionDCM. Also everyone should use BUG and betterAI.

Once you check out these mods, you'll have a firmer idea of what you want to change, but you'll want BUG and betterAI regardless.

For starting to mod, I always recommend the adding new units tutorial:

In that case then check out my Next Fantasy War mod, make sure you look at the first post where it says you'll have to delete the dll if you want to use, that might give you a better understanding what you want, but it has no Magic in it.
