Hi everyone,
I've been playing Civ3 for far too many years, but at a poor level. So apologies for asking a question straight out but I can't build tanks. I've got oil and rubber in my resource chest and know about replaceable parts but I don't have the option to build tanks! Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks very much

I'm not looking at it right now, but I don't think Replaceable Parts is the tech that gives tanks. You might need iron, too. Just check the in-game 'pedia.

Motorized is needed for tanks in C3C. You need to have strategic resources in that town, not just your empire. Look in the city view for them, not just f2.

You need Motorized Transport for Tanks, which is a further advance on Replaceable Parts, which gives you Artillery, Infantry, the Guerilla, and Rubber.

Motorized is needed for tanks in C3C. You need to have strategic resources in that town, not just your empire. Look in the city view for them, not just f2.

No unit requires the strategic resources to be in that town, just in the city view. Only improvements and Wonders can require that the resources be within the city area.

Well I am confused. Are they not in the town, if they are in that towns city view? Not to mention your sentence is hard to discern as it could be read:

no unit requires ....
or
no, unit requires... There are contradictory, so I do not even know what you mean.

Any time you open the towns city view you see the resources that town has access to afaik. These could be provided by either the trade network via the capitol or harbors/airports or the town could provide them in a standalone fashion iirc.

Either way if they show up in the city view, that towns has them to use, does it not? F2 just shows what the empire has, but not what towns have access to them.

VMXA, I thought that you meant that in order to build tanks that the resources had to be within the city radius. My apologies.

If your town is connected by road (harbour or airport) to the required resource then you should be able to build the unit that need that resource if you have completed the technology to allow it. For Tanks its Mortorised Transport which requires both combustion and replacable parts to have been completed first.

Well I am confused. Are they not in the town, if they are in that towns city view?

I think he meant that you should check the city to see if it has ACCESS to those resources: in the City View window, there's a space in the upper left corner showing resources that city is connected to. You might have oil in a distant colony, but if it's not getting to your cities via a harbor you won't be able to build a tank.
