Why did I lose this game?

BTS 3.13.
Playing as Washington of Americans, at Monarch, normal speed, random map.

I lost this game, that was apparently won. After a well played first half, I lost all my advantage on the second half.
I tried focusing a lot on making my cities grow, and specializing them (New York and Chicago were my production cities, Washington produced research and money, my three western cities were research cities, Seattle only granted useful resources, and produced a minimum). I expanded toward Zulu land as soon as I saw the possibility (when he broke his defensive alliance with Isabella); he was much weaker than me, so the war was easy, but long, and slowed me hugely. At the end of the war, when it was time for building the spaceship, Justinian was unreachable with half of his spaceship already built.

So... why did I lose this game??
I'm posting several saves, at various stages of the game. I have more saves at closer intervals. If you need them too, ask me to post them.
Please, give me some help!

You have this expansive empire but you're running Free Market when you should be under State Property. Making that switch alone allows you to run to research without deficit at 60%.

Without seeing the game as I am at work, why not launch a naval assault across the continent at Justinian? AT this point you should have several cities that produce highly promoted units and this is where the American UU comes to shine (modern era amphibious assauts). Granted it may be too late, but trust me it's fun and you'll learn enough to be able to do it net time.

Also if you have a a massive empire as the above poster suggests, SP should be run unless you have several well placed corps in your city and if you do the more reason to be paying Justinian a visit.

If you capture the capital the launching fails, so just gather everything, rush transports if you don't have them and launch towards their capital in a final push.

Wow, I did not know that!!!! Do they have to rebuild all the parts from the beginning?

Sounds like the answer especially if constantinople (or is it Byzantine) is on the coast.

Yup, happened to me in the LHC Toku. Apparently you set such a commotion in the palace that the space control center guys panic and push too many red buttons, causing the ship to implode in the middle of the trip and now they have to build the thing all over again.

By the way, you need to shape up your empire, you don't need defenders on many of those cities at all. All those obsolete units are just detracting from funding well your army. More tanks! More airplanes! MORE! Ragnar should be dead by now, he doesn't have industrialism yet!

You need to sort out your infrastructure, switch to state property, sabotage Justinian's oil supllies and then send in the tanks and Navy Seals.

Go straight for the capital, raze it if you can't keep it, and pillage the hell out of all his towns/villages/cottages.

If you can hold it take as many cities as you can....

That ought to do the trick, then take out Ragnar, with tanks....

Incidently you seem to have a terrible lack of troops and cash, I'd sort that out pronto if I were you, you've got a third of the troop numbers of the leading civ, but you need to trash Justinian because he's miles ahead in tech and if he's gets the chance to build modern troops you could be in trouble....
