why in later eras game sometimes randomly closes?

Likely it's a CTD because you run out of memory.
You can follow some of the following:
Zoom in more, turn off yield icons, reduce graphics settings, use single/reduced unit formations

And put leader screen graphics to lowest (still images).

thank you, I did all, should I increase my ram? I think it is 6800 mhz and 64 gb now

Since I'm on 4k now I run everything option wise on low to lower crash count. I can make it to late game and faster turn times. Sadly Nasa computer can't help us.

Also, sadly, if you have memory crashes you should use the non-eui version of the game as it takes less memory to run.

I believe using EUI and/or playing with yield icons turned on makes crashes much more likely. I always play non-EUI and without yield icons and for me the game never crashes, even though my graphics settings are on medium/high.

To me that's 100% unplayable.

Playing without the yield icons in late game is fine, but yes, without EUI it's not the same experience, especially on the diplomatic side.

That is why I'm looking forward to your idea of "rewriting the EUI and making it fully customizable without unnecessary cashing"! It's a really good idea.

Why EUI is a must to me:
1. Not having to go into a menu to see what other leaders have and how they think of you, especially in a deal screen or leader dialogue where it's impossible. Same with city state quests and WLTKD requests.
2. Flag promotions. Knowing all units' promotions at a glance. I also don't have to remember promotions and what they do by their icons.
3. Improved City View, specifically the grouped specialists. Non-EUI's separation of purchase/invest and produce menu is also horrible.
4. Red border around enemies during war. It's baffling when I notice I can easily be forgetting I'm at war with someone if I return to a game in non-EUI.
5. Tooltip stuff. EUI is not perfect at this though, so I've been rewriting the tooltip code for VPUI.
