I didn't install it when I was presented with the option and I'm thinking about what would the benefits be. Everytime I choose multiplayer the game connects to it via the built-in menu, so what more would installing it offer me ?

Well you use the built-in menu, you're actually connecting to the gamespy lobby. There's really no advantage in installing the gamespy software...just more of a prefence. I downloaded the software. It's a bit easier on the eyes and allows me to get a little more info on who I'm playing. Just depends on the person I guess. You'll see the same text scrolling by whether your on the game software, or you're logged into gamespy...same content...different look.

Yes but I connect to it anyway everytime I start a multiplayer game and can see all Civ games, host my own or join another one. Is the installation going to add something more to the Civ experience or is it only useful for playing other games except Civ ?

Edit: DjarumBlack, I posted before I saw your answer. I guess that settles it. Thank you.

one of the advantages of using gamespy is that it could save you time. You know who and how many players are in the lobby but in the game software you dont. So a difference may arise if there is few or nobody in the lobby, i would go play poker while you started a room and wondering where the heck is everybody or more technically, am I behind a router? :D
