Why is SMAC not listed on the CIV official website?

Newbie here, and am currently deep into exploring the Civ 5 maps.

Anyway, I played Civ 2 in the 1990s and was given SMAC by my DH as a birthday present in the early 2000's. I loved that game. I haven't touched any Civ game again until this year - So 10-12 years at least since my last Civ fix!! LOL

Anyway, I was wondering why is Alpha Centauri is NOT listed on the official Civilization website? Beyond Earth is, but not Alpha Centauri.

Does anyone know?

Am asking out of Curiosity!!

I think the answer is that SMAC isn't supported by Firaxis any more. The game was released in 1999, a long time ago for computer games. You can find an archive of the Firaxis coverage of SMAC here.

I'd say it mostly has to do with EA holding rights to the game...

Do you have an issue with gog.com? I'm interested as I haven't had any problems with them. I did buy SMAC from them a while back, their version seems to work fine (although I haven't spent very much time on it).
