Why is Spain always mad at me?

I spread my religion to their capital (which had no religion) and they said nothing. Many turns later we meet the Aztecs from another continent. Aztecs spread their religion to Spanish capital. I retake it with my religion. Now Spain is mad at me. I've sent all my new missionaries and apostles to England and Germany...but for some reason I keep getting messages from Spain and only Spain denouncing me for converting their cities....
