Why spread religion?

I mainly use religion as a method of sustaining peace. I am not a warmonger by any means, so one of my favored strategies is what I called RW'ing (Religion-W****ing). I try to literally found every single religion in an attempt to make sure everybody keeps the same state religion, and everyone has a good chance at becoming FRIENDLY with me. I usually then take my chance at grabbing cultural or diplomatic victory.
