Why the draft totally rocks!

You know those cities that have almost no production?

Draft an infantry and then disband them to build things. You can pump out 22 shields per turn. I'm not certain if this works with wonders, but it's pretty handy.

Makes those outlying cities rock!

Drafting however makes a lot of people in the city unhappy which if it gets to bad will cause civil disorder and then you won't produce anything.

I guess I didn't notice this effect because I had so many + happy faces from all the trading I'd done.

Build what? For the most part, those outlying cities are good for nothing but drafting citizens period (well that and building culture in hopes of absorbtion). Send them to defend/police the interior and send your "real" soldiers to the front lines. That patch better have reasonable corruption (esp once railroads and airports are built)
 
Yeah, a lot of unhappiness caused by drafting. I only use drafting judiciously. Agree w/ LayZ, I abuse the citizens of my corrupt "one shield wonder" cities since they do nothing for you anyway. Draft em, whip em under commie gov to rush improvements, who cares about em. Their all second class citizens in my book :D

I disagree w/ drafting just to turn around and disband. I don't think that's the best use. Yeah, use them to guard interior while regs and vets go to war. Their also quite nice to garrison in newly conquered cities so you're best troops aren't taken away if they revolt.
