Recently, we moved back into our old house after a fire, and the only network available was an unsecured SMC network with an iffy range. After my sisters' computers went out, my mother's (soon to be mine) was capable of connecting to the network, but it wouldn't connect to the internet. After some troubleshooting, I concluded that the issue was with the network itself, and not the computer. However, after Clearwire was set up, my father's computer worked perfectly well, but the same problem persisted on my mother's. A virus scan was run, but it only exposed a few spy cookies, and a ping test was failed. What say the fine techies of Civfanatics about this situation?

Wait, if I get this right, you're complaining that the only network you can access has crappy range and is generally iffy, but at the same time, it is not your network? Am I missing something or are you just not being very clear?

That's what we were using before, but then Clearwire (our ISP) showed up and I realized the problem was with the compy itself. Anyhow, I'm not sure what the problem was, but System Restore fixed it.

Just a note then, if the network aint free as in a hotspot specifically provided, you arent allowed to use it, even if its unpassworded.
