At first i was impressed with civ4. But i am having some douts now that they released more info. I wonder if u feel the same. :vomit:

Graphics are horrible. The gameplay looks promising though.

It's really too early to tell. I'll let you know once I've played it, however, I am excited about trying it out.

Graphics look real deplorable... I don't quite understand how they do that when civ3's were just fine..

The graphics looks alright to me, albeit that a modmaker might need to revamp it, from toy-like units and terrain to a more realistic feel.

I wonder why all these games want such a cartooney feel to it while the customers obviously want realism with higher contrast levels.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 looked awful as well, but imagine if that game would have been drawn realistically and not so childish, it might have looked awesome with the same engine behind it.
But making something totally realistic isn't a good idea as well, because the contrast and differences between units would not be as visible (f.i. Railroad Tycoon 3 looked realistic, but you couldn't see which of those buildings is the one you were looking for in the blink of an eye)

It'll be great.

People need to stop whining about the graphics. They look fine.

In any case, it's not ABOUT the graphics, maan.

It's about the game

Yes it will be, the graphics appear fine as they are though apparently not liked by some
but it is about the gameplay - and if it can take a step up from civ 3, it will be brilliant. i.e. -If the AI, economic and trade systems, civics systems are on track.

Out-of-the-box, we all would like a few features tweaked our own way, but as long as the game proves to be as moddable as expected than it Civ 4 will be even more brilliant.

Because it has been proven that it sells? In your own example, you listed a game that sold more copies than Civ3, IIRC.

I have never cared much about the graphics in Civ IV, the most important part in Civ IV will be the modding capability, and as it seems this will be very powerful.

The graphic in Civ II is the one I prefer, very simple and easy to mod for most people, though I don't think that we will have to wait long before the Civ community churns out dozens of new artwork for Civ IV every week.

In my opinion Civ II was better than Civ III because it had a stronger modding capability, as a game Civ III is somewhat better so I believe that Civ IV will be much better than any previous Civ, new features, better modding capabilities and more graphics options.

All in all, if Firaxis delivers on all it has said so far and the AI is competitive (since I almost exclusively play single player du to time constraint) the game will be the BEST Civ game ever to install on a computer.

It sold a lot mainly because 1 and 2 were so succesful and the idea of changing the most popular tycoon game into 3d made a lot of people buy it...
But it turned out to be a disappointment for those older than 15 years and not gay...

If it made it more realistic, sales presumably would've been higher.

I hope its a good game ...i don't want that same sinking feeling that i got when playing Call to Power :(

I hate to say it, but I'm worried it's going to flop.

If they had a quality product, they wouldn't be trying to bank on controversy, doing things like equating the non-religious with witchdoctors. Also, whatever one thinks of the graphics, they *are* geared to appeal to a very young market - which is generally not a good sign.

Also they seem a bit shy when it comes to discussion of the AI ... I have my doubts that they are just being modest.

That is my worry too, and it's strengthened by the inclusion of "Great People" ... somehow this magical unit with wonderous powers doesn't feel right to me.

The graphics are not that bad in my opinion, but they need some tweaking like the Settlers IV to Settlers V transition ...
I hope I've been able to learn some 3d Studio Mad and UV mapping by november so I could do some things by myself.

About the moddability of the game. I just hope it ain't no excuse for "we made a crappy game, but hey, with some 300 fanatics working on mods, it might be alright."

I don't think that a game that has such a strong fan base can flop completely, but it can do poorly enough to kill the francise.

I personally don't understand what passed into their mind with the religious stuff, that was bound to annoy a chuck of fans without bringing new fans in (I cannot imagine religious people being happy either)

I feel Civ4 is definately going to be different than Civ3 and people will have to get used to a few things in order to play it effectively. But I think I'll enjoy it, so I'm looking forward to it.

Since certain people on the forum are upbeat about it (and you know who you are), I feel comfortable that I'll enjoy it.
