Hey guys, this laptop. Will it run well?
Inspiron 17R-2nd Gen

Memory:
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory

Video Card:
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M (128-bit) 1GB

Processor:
2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor I52410M
2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz

No, will not :/.
The graphics card is probably not even above the minimum requirements. This chart sets a GT 520 to the level around the minimum requirements, and a GeForce GT 525M is probably weaker than the mentioned one (yeah, the number is higher, but the M indicates a mobile version, which are in general weaker).

Edit: And welcome to CFC :).

Alright, well what laptop do you recommend then? It doesn't have to be a really good gaming laptop, just something affordable, but with good enough specs to play this game.
Thanks.

Not so fast :D

In fact, the 525m should be closer to a "recommended" 9800GT than a "minimum" 8600GT, being about twice as fast as a desktop 520 :)

You will not find an "affordable" GPU in a laptop that is much faster, and with that CPU this laptop should be play Civ5 reasonably well.

Oh, thanks for the correction :).
Now, that's now the place and the time to surrender with my attempts of understanding graphic card names .

(@blksith0: tokala knows that stuff definitely better than i do, listen to him)

I've got a GT 435M in my Dell XPS and I can run Civ V maxed out @ 1920x1080. His card will be fine.

Will it run on this Laptop

I have left 4 dead 2 and i can play it with graphics on high but i cant even get this game to start its really frustrating. It just says preparing to launch then nothing happens!
Ive re installed steam and the game a bunch of times, everything is updated and ive tried opening it directly from the game file in the steamapps/common folder.

How long did you wait?
Did you try the DX9 or DX11 version (better DX9, DX11 will probably be too much for the card)?
Just in case: If you are using Avast! antivirus, it might prevent the start up or incredibly slow it down, so if you have it, then try to turn it off.

It doesnt even give me the option to choose dx9 or 11 it just says preparing to launch and thats it. It if start it from the launch application it gives me that option but the game still doesnt start.
I dont have avast and ive only had the game for about a week so im not waiting long between upddates i just try once my computer restarts. it also tells me i have one messed up file if i verify the game but it doesnt do anything about it.

If you are on Windows Vista or 7, then you, or more the programs which you are using can't make changes in the main programs folder, unless you explicitely say that they can.
So, under normal circumstances, Steam tries to download/repair the file, but it can't, because it is not allowed to.
To allow it, you have to start Steam with admin rights. So you have to go to the Steam folder (should normally be something like C:\Program Files\Steam, or similar), rightclick on the Steam.exe, and there should be something like a "run as administrator" option, which will request then the administrator password to get the rights to change files there.

I would say that it does not like his graphics "card". Until i put a stronger dedicated graphics card into a computer with an integrated chip, the game did the same thing.

I thought it was my graphics card but i am able to run Left 4 Dead 2 on high settings with no problems. if it can do that then it can definitly handle Civ 5

Nope, like The_J said it is below specs and CivV will run on "some" below specs like nvidea, but not Intel. My nvidea was designed to run HD before it was scrapped and it is slow and crashes, but it is also a dedicated card (in a loptop) and not integreted like your Intel. If you are just getting a blank screen and/or nothing loads, the only thing will be putting in a better graphics card. The better it is the better the game will play smoothly.
