I'm convinced that there is definately an arrangement with retailers not to put this game on the shelves until the 26th. Every worker I've asked at EB and Gamestop ( there are 3 of each in my area ) were almost too quick to tell me the 26th will be the day.

I guess it's meant to avoid fiasco's of some store having the game and some not having it thereby causing mass mayhem and rioting in the streets.

they've also probably had people asking them the same question all day and were just well practiced. also, companies sometimes do arrange for the games to be in stores but have them hold the release till a certain day to ensure simultaneous release through all chains, usually this happens with big games, i remember i went through this same stuff with moo3

I can't believe there wasn't a single copy leaked to someone who was willing to brag about it online...

But, considering the fines that can be dropped on stores that sell early, I guess I can understand it. When Doom 3 came out last year, I read on a doom forum that a Best Buy in Frederick, MD had the game on their floor the Friday before it was set to be released (I think that following Tuesday).

I drove the 30 minutes or so from DC, snagged the game, and proceeded to post scanned imgs of the instruction book online for everyone to drool over... I later found out that BB was fined something like $10,000 for every copy they sold before the release date.... something to that effect.

Strange.
