Hi folks.

You've probably heard this before, but I won't buy any game on Steam. If your game were available on basically any other vendor (no Steam at all, period), then I would buy it. GOG, a local store with the whole game (not a Steam key), etc. Don't care at all about the multiplayer.

Ah, and please, my reasons are my own, and I feel they're good. I'm sure the devs have reasons for a Steam (Steam key) only release. I'm simply stating that I'm one of the people who won't buy because of it, and otherwise would. So far, I've saved ~$200 this year this way, so it's not all bad. =3

Didn't see any other threads on the first two pages for this, so thought I'd make one.

If there was a similar active thread on the issue, I wouldn't have had to make a new one.

Why do you need to make a thread making this announcement? Besides, I'm confident whether games go to GoG or Origin or other non-Steam sources is entirely up to 2K, so posting here isn't even going to reach your intended audience. Unless we are the intended audience, then see the first sentence.

Get a mac. Buy the app store version. No steam required.

That assumes it would be made available via that route.

Should we tell him that all the other sources he cited will only sell steam keys? Even local vendors (retail boxes) will have a steam key inside.

yeah...

more importantly, when will we get smilies back? the full on listing.

Also, why is :clap:considered an 'other' smilie?

Maybe I misunderstand but... there are physical copies of the game you can buy. Also, it's not a discussion to start the topic and then say "the reasons are my own, I'm not discussing them".

In any case, this belongs in the off-topic thread since it's not Civ VI specific. You don't buy any games that are Steam only.

The benefits of having tons of people play on steam probably outweigh the benefits of having a few additional people who really don't want to use steam.

I'd assume that even the game being at the top of the most-played lists probably already brings in more "Oh, that game is popular, I should check it out!"-purchases over the few dozens that are lost from people who are hardcore anti-steam.

Civ games (all the ones starting with 5) right now are steam only, if you buy a box from a store, it'll have a steam key in it. I'm not even sure they even put a disc in the box with a gold version of the game anymore. Buy it from another retailer, online or otherwise, you get a steam key. If you don't buy any games that are Steam only, recent Civ games are on that list.

I'm sure if you search the off-topic forums you can find a thread discussing DRM. It's just not an option for this game right now.

Yes, apparently you do misunderstand. Even if you buy a physical copy, it will still require Steam to play.

As for my reasons, they're material for a different, unrelated thread which has no particular place in this discussion.

well, considering you only have 3 whole posts and all of them are in this thread...

please remember that the Off topic section is waaaayy over there.

I've decided that red is a superior color over blue.

But my reasons are my own.

Moderator Action: Since this thread is not about Civ 6 I'm going to close it. The Off-Topic area of the forum is the place to discuss general matters
