The expansion is comming out in mid-summer, so a patch will still be valuable remember.

What good is the patch if it will come out in June.???
Abandon any hope that patch will come out in April, or May.
It is already rejected by QA team,I guess. Final inspection testing can't take more than a week or so.. As you know, the patch was submitted to QA team long long times ago...
So it will take, at least, another one or two month before Firaxis rework and re-submit completed patch to QA team and yet another month for QA team play the toy... Or it may take longer bacause they are now busy for developing the expansion pack. No time to waste on trivial and reward-less/non-paying things like making a patch.
So no chance that we may see the patch coming out in ealier than June.
Assuming that expansion come out in mid July or early Aug. Why they bother to fix the bug-ladden original Civ 4? It will be useful for only one or two month. Invest 2 -3 month of development efforts just to please customer for on e or two month? No way... It is total waste of time and money..
If I am Firaxis CEO, I will completely abandon on-going patch effort and will concentrate all resource and efforts to develope and polish bug-free expansion. So if you want bug free and functional Civ 4 game, purchase the new expansion! That will solve your problem! Wouldn't you? Isn't it more beneficial to all Civ 4 fans and company bottum line in long run? :)

God, don't dare badmouth anything to do with Civ IV here!!!
Comrade, you'll get banned, and the thread closed for daring to comment on the subject!!

Pfffft!

Whether the official patch is released then or not (my bet is just before Easter), I expect that there will be a post on here on April 1 reporting the patch is released.
I am sure that someone will think that is a 'fun' thing to do.

No. As long as comments remain constructive, threads remain open. Its when people insist on trolling, flaming and basically abusing people that the threads get closed.

I'm sorry, did I miss something then?

Hmm, we don't know if QA refused the patch, do we? As far as I remember, the same QA department is also in charge of Oblivion, right? Does anyone know if that game is very buggy, that is if it requires emergency patching? Cause that could throw us back further.

They really should offer untested beta patches. Put a disclaimer on them, "this patch hasn't been properly tested yet, it might make things worse, use at your own risk". No one could complain if that patch did horrible things to their goldfish, and to those few folks still unable to properly enjoy the game it might be useful.

now you can ban him ;)

I hope the patch will allow me to see the video's in a normal way. I still haven't seen the intro movie, because of a sort of lag. Wonder movies have the same problem. The times I won a game, I couldn't see my victory movie because of the same reasons.

I don't get it. Dungeon Siege 2 will all details, best resolution... works without problems.

Hmm.... If anyone will post the fake news on April 1 anyway, I am inclined to do it myself to take away the fun out of it from the anyone.
I promise to post the "The patch is out" false news on April 1, on 0:00 (midnight).
Moreover, I live in time zone GMT+9 (Japan/Korea) so the offical April 1, 0:00 comes ealier here than other country, except New zealand and Australia. Is there any human being ( not koala and kangaroo) living in down under? ;)
PS) Ooops! On the Internet, nobody Knows You're a Kangaroo!!!

Since your entire post was based on a guess, I don't see much reason to pay attention to it.
Then, give us better explanation... or any other guess...

Yes my word is guess, but highly probable educated guess,

FACT1 ) patch was handed over from Firaxis to Take2 for final inspection about a month ago (end of Feb), So they said the it will be released real soon. Usually we don't use word 'real soon' to mean a month or so.
FACT2 ) patch is not yet released. It is now end of March.

There is only three possibilities
POSSIBILITY 1) pach is rejected and now in the hand of Firaxis.
POSSIBILITY 2) patch is still under inspection by the publisher
POSSIBILITY 3) The patch effort was completely scrapped. There will be no patch whatsoever in foreseenable future.

COMMON SENSE in game industry 1): Final inspection of game by publisher takes usually a week or less for new title. Inspection of patch usually takes even les.s
COMMON SENSE in game industry 2 ) it is now March/April, when the least number of new games are released around a years so there shouldn't be much game waiting to be inspected by the publisher.

These two rules out POSSIBILITY 2.
A month in game industry is period of time long enough even for newly published title to be handed over from developer to publisher and inspected, go CD press factory, packaged in shinny new box and delivered to store all over the world and stocked waiting for customers on store shelf in announced release date.
Give me any other better/probable explanation why the publisher can not finish the final inspection till now and can not release the patch yet.
