I play tennis every Tuesday night with three mates I grew-up with, and after playing we go to the pub and 'chew the fat' over a few beers. We talk about anything and one of the topics we will be discussing is who will win Wimbledon.

In the mens I would like to see Pat Rafter win but I'm not sure that his shoulder will hold out. Of the other Aussies Lleyton Hewitt is in very good form and must rate a chance, it's a pity he's still a such a 'tennis brat', but then he is young and like Andre Agassi might mature. Another Aussie Wayne Arthurs is a 'dark horse' and has the style of game that favours grass. The perennial favourites Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras must be a big chance.

In the womens the Williams sisters will be a chance along with a host of other Americans such as Lindsey Davenport and Jennifer Capriati (who has regained some of her old form). I will be interested to see how two very talented young players, Jelena Dokic and Martina Hingis go - both lack maturity and have a dippy parent to contend with, but both are a chance.

My predictions are:

Mens singles - Pete Sampras, outsider Lleyton Hewitt

Womens singles - Venus Williams, outsider Jelena Dokic

I'd like to hear your predictions and thoughts on Wimbledon 2001.

Pete Sampras will win the Mens
Jennifer Capriati will win the Womens

Men - Richard Krajicek (if he would participate

actually I think Hewitt has a good chance..
Women - Kim Clijsters (Hewitt's girlfriend)

Now wouldn't that be romantic?

I don't know who's good these days anymore. But I hope Jelena Dokic and Richard Krajicek will win. Krajicek because he's Dutch and Dokic because...well, just because!

Matrix, I hate to say it..but good ol' Richard, the guy that managed to interrupt Sampras' winning streak won't participate this year. He hurt his ankle and is still recovering...

So let's support Jan Siemerink and Sjeng Schalken!!!

BTW: I know why you want Dokic to win (wait until I tell M (<--- you know who I mean!!) about that!!!!

Interesting. I note nobody predicted Goran Ivanisevic (Ok, I know he was a big shock, but...)

Only andycapp predicted Venus Williams' win in the womens' class.

Pfff Venus Williams... well she may have won this year, but it will be her last year. There're many promising new tennis players out there, especially from belgium. Normally I wouldn't cheer for Belgian player's but since our dutch ladies performed so badly, I kept my focus on Clijsters and Henin. I think it's incredible that Henin managed to make it to te final and I'm sure she'll show us more next year, she'll just have to grow a little more into those grand slams.

As for the men: I'm soooo glad Goran Ivanisevic won. He's the single most hilarious croatian I know and the fact that he made it to the final thanks to a wildcard is reason enough for me to cheer for him, instead of Rafter, though I think he's very sympathic too. I'm just glad Henboy (ok, Henman) didn't win. His performance on wimbledon was okay, but the media and the audience just overhyped his actions a little too much, which made henman somewhat arrogant towards the other contestants.
I think wimbledon has been very exciting this year. I hope we'll be seeing more great grand slams this year..!

p.s. about predicting Goran as the winner: there's a englishman who bet that goran would win for 400 euro. Prior to the tourney the odds against Ivansevic were about 1 to 200. You do the math...

Really interesting reply you gave me there, Drake.
But could you perhaps state which sport you do like? Or does watching other people work the sweat out of there butt for a lousy silver dish make you sleep in all casea?
Come to think of it: there's absolutely no wonder or city improvement in civilization that is related to sport. Or am I missing something?

Hey it's just my opinion. I'm not saying yall shouldnt find it interesting. But watching pansies in white shorts running back and forth grunting every time they hit the ball bores me to death. Women's tennis is only interesting when there's a cute girl wearing a short skirt

I like baseball and american football mostly, basketball somewhat. I like these because I was raised playing these games and I have a greater appreciation for them. Others find these games boring, and they're fully entitled to that opinion.

I do like watching Golf, tennis, soccer and something like cycling sometimes, when I'm in the mood for a nap

The Yugoslavian guy that beat Pat Rafter.

I was channel surfing and just managed to catch a glimpse of the end of the match.

Otherwise, same oppinion as Drake.

Plus, I find it annoying when they holler like their in labour whenever they hit the ball.

I LOVE TENNIS!!!!!

That last game between Iv******** (I'm not even going to try and spell it

) and Rafter was awesome!!!

Anyone in Florida want a game????

I got a mean drop shot, my slices rule. I got an awesome topspin forehand, also got a new shot, my one-hand back-hand topspin. But that one is expermintal still.

I also have a pretty good serve. It's not consistent....but it's pretty dynamite when it's in. I'm also developing a nice slice serve. Anyway.....To Quote the debunk MPlayer: "Wan'na Play?"

Geez, Corn, you should look up EyesofNight! He has claimed that he's a great tennis player, one deserving of a scholarship (oooh). Also, he lives in Florida. Look that sob up!

(No I'm not kidding!)

I can say with confidence that the 2001 Mens Wimbledon winner will be Ivanisavich (SP?) and V. Williams. But that's just a "guess", LOL!
