I know this is probably a very simple question with an obvious answer, but if it is, I can't find the answer. I already asked Google and didn't find what I needed. How do I change the names of the links in the windows 7 start menu? I have blender 2.49 and I want to install blender 2.57a (the newest beta version) however because I am taking a school class that requires the use of 2.49, I can't simply replace the program. I used to have both on my computer but I had to uninstall 2.56 (2.57a was only recently released) because they would both appear on the start menu as "Blender" and there was no way to tell which was which. How do I edit the name of the link so that they read "Blender 2.49" and "Blender 2.57a"? Could I just rename the executable or would that cause a problem? Thanks.

Can you rename the shortcut? Just right click > properties > general. (right click > rename seems to work a bit funky on the start menu) Seems to work fine on my end

:hammer2:
I can't believe I didn't think of that. The sad thing is I even tried going into the link's properties and changing it that way and I couldn't find that option! Thanks for the help :)

You can, actually. But I dont like to because if memory serves it pops up a little box that sometimes disappears behind other windows

I'd do a right click and rename. I don't think you can do a rename from properties.

You can't do that on windows 7x64. Aimeeandbeatles' suggestion worked, I just went to the general tab of properties and was able to change the name.

Yeah, you can. You may not be running an admin account, because you need to provide admin permissions to complete the rename.

Ok, I right clicked on an icon in the start menu and I got the options to: Open, Run as admin, pin to taskbar, pin to start menu, remove from list, and properties. I have an admin account. When I looked in the general tab of properties, I was able to change the name of the link however it did ask me to confirm that I wanted to make the change.

That's the issue then. You're in the pinned shortcuts. The rename option is only available within the actual programs list (go into "All Programs").
