Sorry guys, I have had read a lot of those threads dealing with the patch 1.29beta2 for the Mac version (Of course I do use this patch and I am very happy with it), but I haven't found the answer to my question:

Which windows version do make a save that I will be able to load and play with?

We have found that the PtW Players (with the latest patch) have no trouble with loading my saves and playing them.

Mac

You can load any Windows save created with version 1.29f for Windows. You may also be able to load saves from earlier versions like 1.21, but nothing later like PtW or C3C.

That is quite strange, because the german webring friends could not open my saves with Civ III (indeed, they could open it, but it was not playable because of a language issue: Mac in english <-> Windows in german). But it worked fine with PtW, no matter what language was in use.

We will try, and thanx for the info....

Not really strange. Newer versions of Civ know about older version save file formats. Older versions of the software don't know about newer formats. This happens with lots of software. Try opening a Word 2003 file using Word 5 for Mac or Word 2 for Windows.

Version 1.29 saves, whether they are produced in Mac or Windows, can be opened in Civ 1.29 or PtW or C3C on Windows, but PtW and C3C saves cannot be opened by version 1.29 on either platform.

Language issues are another question entirely, and one I'm not in a good position to answer. I've spent some time looking at translation between English and French versions, and I know it's a minefield.

I have played a few succession games on my mac... and IIRC there was someone using german or some other language on windows... but it might be there was an english windows player in between... :hmm:

Not sure, though.

I've played a few SGs with the posters above, and we never had any technical difficulties other tha fish that could live of flood plains, although we didn't have any players using the German version...

 Fish living in flood plains was prolly not related to using Mac saves. More likely you weren't using the correct modded resources files.

I wasn't. ;)

The second time I tried, there were silks on the flood plain!

Eventually I got it right, though. :)

No, I didn't take a picture. :( Someone else may have if you want to read KA1, though.
