Since i use Windows7 i can't enjoy Civ4 (BTS 3.19). At least every 2nd game i get a BSOD or the PC just freezes up.

Here is a collection of BSOD codes (some BSODs dont give any info):

- "system_service_exception" 0x0000003B, fltmgr.sys is mentioned

- "video scheduler has encountered an unexpected fatal error" 0x00000119

- "irq_not_less_or_equal" 0x0000007E, dxgmms1.sys is mentioned

I first suspected a faulty graphics driver but the BSODs continue since the last 3 nvidia drivers (currently 196.21).
Then i suspected faulty RAM management of BIOS because most BSODs occure mid/end game when RAM gets fuller. But since i got no idea what revision my board is i cannot update the BIOS.

Here is my PC info:
Windows7 Home Premium 64-Bit (with latest patches)
nVidia 8800GTX (with 196.21 driver)
Intel C2D E6600
RAM 4x 1GB
MoBo Gigabyte P35-DS4

I'd really appreciate some help, this is driving my crazy :(
All this only happens when playing Civ4 btw, never had a problem with any other program.

Sorry, not intending to bump.
I just read the sticky and wanted to add the DxDiag.

Only Civ4 gives me BSODs :(
But then again, Civ4 is the only game i play (Firefox and Office doesnt use that much RAM  ).

I was therefore "hoping" this is a software/driver problem which someone/you could help me with.

Btw, i managed to update my BIOS yesterday. Still have to test Civ4 though. Will keep you posted :)

After finishing a game without any problems, last night a got a BSOD few turns into the game (RAM was not even third full):

system_service_exception 0x0000003B, win32k.sys

Any suggestions would be really appreciated :(

I've tried several things now:
- Memtest. Tested every stick on its own for 5+ passes: OK Tested them together: OK

- uninstalled the nvidia driver and tested civ4 with the default windows driver. 2 new BSODs which came much earlier than usually:
1. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, 0x0000000A (no file)
2. only a code, 0x0000001E

I now do think it's a driver issue since i found some1 in a tech forum who has the same problems (and similar HW and BSOD codes) with tested RAM.
But since he doesnt play civ4 i guess it's not a problem with the game+driver but some generall driver problem.

Thanks alot for your help :)

I think I got the exact same problem here running Rhye's on BTS with Win7/64 on a GF7800.
The first few hundred years went by fine but now I get a freeze (BSOD is deactivated) about every 2nd turn which just isn't playable anymore.
I reactivated my swap-file and updated my drivers to no avail.
I got a software raid, overclocked CPU/RAM and a hardware defect on my GPU (which shows artefacts just in some games after game restart) but all of this seems unrelated... Just trying to confuse you ;)

After about 3 years of not playing CIV, cause Rhye's was just too much to handly for my System in the later turns, I thought my software raid (installed a year ago) would now do the trick.
It seems to work nicely except these freezes... Really sux even so I think I had a sure cultural victory anyway.

edit:
Sry for bringing this up. Seems it's CIV unrelated as it now happens with about every 3d game I tryed. Strange it worked since. I think my GFX just finally died on me - no gaming anytime soon for me no more.
