Hi,

This is a tricky one that nobody has ever fixed for me :(

I'm looking for a WinXP theme that uses only 256 colours (system pallet) ...

Any ideas? If someone knows how to make WinXP themes, that would be almost just as good :)

I don't think you can do the 256 color pallet in XP. At least, I haven't seen it yet....

You can. Under properties for an exe, you can run them in 256 colour mode. This is optimal* for WinCiv (Civ1) but the standard windows themes are 16-bit and look bloody awful with a 256 colour desktop :(

I think that most amateur themes are 32-bit.

* A little extra eye candy

But doesn't the desktop need to be set to 256 color mode to take advantage of that? I always thought that the higher bit depth won out.

When any exe is run in 256 colour mode, the desktop and everything else is set to 256 colours.

The graphics in WinCiv are 256 colours, so they look the same regardless of desktop colour depth, but the animations only work in 256 colour mode.
