I am having troubles right now with my wireless. On my newer laptop, I just had to reinstal Windows XP (for the second time now).

I installed McAfee first and then my drivers (Which includes the driver for my wireless card) and now I am getting an error from my wireless that it has limited or no connectivity.

Uninstalling McAfee only resolves the problem, but I dont want to leave my computer vunerable

I don't know how mcafee would be messing up your wifi connection. I guess it's the perfect anti virus since it's near impossible to get a virus without being able to connect to the internet:lol:

unless you have classified information or something I think it's worth the risk to keep using the internet.

However, I dont want to catch any virus or malware that would cause me to reinstall my OS :p

Use better antivirus/antispyware software. Try something like avast.

On a side note, I dont have an antivirus or antispyware installed, and I havent had it on this computer for close to a year ( my last format). So far I havent gotten any viruses, malware or spyware.

meh I end up reinstalling XP about once a month. if it's such a problem then put all your important data on a second partition and go hog wild.

Right now you have a few options

contact mccafee and ask them why it breaks your wireless

get another virus detector

use the internet without virus protection

use mcaffe and don't use the internet.

my guess is that your virus protection has a firewall enabled and is blocking wireless connections. I'm not familiar with their software but I imagine you can disable it to connect to the internet and then re enable it for periodic virus scans

At least you have the internet. When I first got my new computer it came with Norton. No internet whatsover.

http://www.cnn.com poses a threat to your computer's security.

What a crock.

Have you tried getting the wireless going first, and then installing McAfee?

If it has a firewall, there might be a setting for 'trusted network'. Make sure the networks you're using have the correct setting. Also it might be logging its activity, you could look at the logs to see what connections are getting refused, and configure from there.

All my systems have Symantic Internet Security, the above is based on that product's functionality. Haven't seen what the other ones can do, so just guessing...
