Once again, we have a choice to make.

It looks as though we'll have the ability to build a wonder right away when play resumes. The question is which one?

Right now, we can get Women's Suffrage or the United Nations. Both wonders I like a lot, but we will run a risk of losing one now that we see the Chinese and the Mongols have Communism (the Romans too, but they have not started a new wonder since the Statue). The Chinese and the Mongols are both building Suffrage right now, and should we build it they will just cascade to the UN - there is no other wonder with the Statue being built.

So how shall we play it? Go for Suffrage now and try for the UN later or get the UN now and try for Suffrage later? If we fail in getting the second wonder, we will undoubtedly have Hoover to fall back on very soon. Hey, I'd like to get all three, but that's just me.

I'm torn - anyone feel strongly one way or another?

What does the UN do again? Force your enemies to offer peace, right? Then it depends. How important is that for us?

I think Women's Sufferage is more important at the moment.

(Wow, I come back and I find out I have a city named after me? I feel so special! :D)

OK, going from memory here:

Women's Suffrage establishes a police station in every city. The immediate effects in a democracy is that units outside of cities causes less unhappiness than before.

The UN establishes an embassy with all of the other civilizations, but gives the added benefit of allowing the building nation the ability to manipulate some world politics. In essence, it acts like the Great Wall in that other nations will ask for peace if they are approached, not declare war if you refuse their extortion, etc. The best part, however, is in a democracy the Senate interferes MUCH less. It allows for "continued actions" more often rather than having the Senate sign a cease fire behind your back and all that. Not EVERY time, but a good percentage more.

Neither one expires.

You can see why both of these are nice for waging war in democracy. With less unhappiness from units in the field and less interference from the Senate, the two main problems involved are lowered.

Personally, I'd like to go for Suffrage right now. We can have it done in about 2 turns. Here's why:

1. It will cause those civs who are building it now (and don't have Communism or Genetic Engineering) to abandon the wonder once we build it. If they have nothing to build, then they lose the shields.
2. Even if they can build something else (like the UN or Cure for Cancer), there is still a chance that they will abandon the project entirely and not begin the new wonder until later.
3. Police stations in all cities will help in other governments as well.
4. While the Senate could still be a problem in Republic or Democracy, without the UN we can still establish embassies. We already have 2, and when we have spies (in about 3 turns), we can establish in the rest of the nations for free.

Myself, I think that we can still get both. Our cash is really kicking in right now, and rush a few freight here, deliver a few there, and we'll have it done in no time. However, I'd still go for Suffrage first.

My $0.02

We should definitely go for Suffrage before the UN, as our production (well, buying ;)) centre is in great shape and I reckon that we can get the UN too. Now that the caravans have all been upgraded to freight we should be able to get them from the producing city to the wonder city in a single turn over the roads and thing's get even better with railroads. I'm confident that we can out-produce the AI and it is very doubtful that they will have a wonder to fall back on. Some expensive musketeers I would hope.

Although both have their plusses, I would say go for WS first. I've rarely built UN in my games because it has the annoying drawback of not being able to entice another Civ into declaring war on you. As we are already at war with the world this seems a rather small drawback in the present case , but I still think WS has more going for it for us than UN. I'm confident we'll get both, and Hoover, and....

I would also prefer WS. We don´t seem to have that much of a problem getting ourselves into war even without the UN. :)

So are we going to build WS in Olympia by changing its build order from the Eiffel tower (When we get/steal the relevant tech)...?

I'm sorry that this is off topic but it is urgent.

This is to: duke o' york, Mr. Spice, and Dell19

By the orders of the Civ3 Democracy Game Citizen Registry, If you do not register in the new registry list in the forum, you will be razed off the list. So you better go when you have the chance or else.

I say we go for both at the same time...

But I personally like WS a little better, those police stations are hell to make!

And the UN, well it isn't that useful, because you can just negotiate with somebody else who is at war with that person you want war with. They will ask you, and you are at war with no penalty!

Okay thanks for the warning. I don't know what has happened to the Duke, he just seems to have disappeared.
