Hm, the archaelogist Eric Sleman (i probably misspelt his surname) dug up the site where Troy was supposed to have been, in the northern coast of asia minor, and iirc he found 7 cities, one burried beneath the other. I dont know if the location where Troy was is still debated today, but it makes sense that it was in asia minor, if it was in macedonia then ships wouldnt have been so important.

His name was Heinrich Schliemann.

Interestingly in greek his first name is Erikos=Eric. Perhaps heinrich and eric exist as the same name in different western countries? It seems very probable.
