Only a few wonders buildable in cities, most wonders could be built on the map. You gather the resources and send enough population working on and wait for them to finish. Who ever has a wonder in their domain controls it. Larger wonders like pyramids would take a number of squares. Wonders like the great wall, the shape can be controlled. (longer you want to make it, the longer it takes to make)
